LL01 vs LL17 on N20 engine?
So I've been using ll01 0w-30 BMW branded oil since day1.
According to one article the LL17 "Replaces the LL-14 spec for N20, B38, B46, B48, and B58 engines. This appears to be a minor update to the LL-14 formula and designed for improved emissions." Thoughts on this or should I just stay with 0w-30 ll01? |

LL17 replaces LL14 as an update to reduce the LSPI that direct injection turbo vehicles encounter (similar to SN Plus)
(probably reduced calcium/sodium) I would use this over LL14 personally. But that said, I'd also not fiddle with it and would be going with a 0w30 or 5w30 with the SN Plus/SP designation as they are way more readily available and cheaper. |

You should be running 0W20 the N55 calls for 0W30 and it’s much more expensive. If it helps I run pentosin 0W20 in my brother 16 F25 N20 and I run red line 0W30 in my 12 F25 N55, my distributor has a list of BMW approved oils I can post up if that helps.
