You can also see the new USB charging port at the bottom of the dash in the above photo. The wireless charging "dock" is in the center console when you order that option (also includes a WiFi hotspot in the car), and replaces the smartphone integration and the BMW phone adapters, which are being phased out. Hey TonySCV, thanks for the pics and the info! I'm pretty sure what you posted is exactly what will be coming in the late 2016/2017 f25 LCI models in terms of infotainment. How do you find the new iDrive software? Any Easter eggs hidden or otherwise cool things?

FWIW - The 2017 X5 and X6 models ('17's arrive in August of this year IIRC for the X5/6), will have touchscreen in addition to iDrive 5. I'm assuming touchscreen capabilities will arrive for the X3 and 4 with the new platform as BMW will probably want to move the screen closer to the passengers for easier reach-ability. It's nice though that BMW updated the software at least. |

Wireless charging would be been terrific for my Samsung Galaxy Edge 6+. Before I bought my car last a few weeks ago I was offered a May build slot but I preferred buying a car that's ready for delivery, and I got a £4,000 discount.
Any chance I can upgrade my car to iDrive 5? |

You can upgrade the software, but i woukd only use the dealer or someone that reallys knows his stuff. It took my trusted Indy 2 days to upgrade the iDrive on my E60

You're taking thousands of pounds tho. New navigation computer, new screen, new controller. wireless charging setup between the seats and a new roof aerial possibly too. Plus a new licence for the map and installation. I'd guess about £5-6000 right now? |

Not without significant expense.

iDrive 5 in the X3/4 also requires the NBT2 head unit hardware (AKA NBT EVO), which is also part of the 2017 models (US) (i.e. any X3 and X4 built after April 1st 2016, and was not offered earlier. NBT2 includes a faster processor and LTE wireless connectivity along with over the air map updates. For vehicles like the 2016 3 series and 2015-16 2 series that already have NBT2 hardware with iDrive 4.x, then it should be a simple(r) software-only upgrade. In the case of the X3 and 4 though, you're looking at a major expense because you'll need to purchase an NBT2 head unit as well. New NBT unit, new software, potentially other hardware (LTE modem which is also part of the NBT2 hardware), not to mention the expense of installation and finding someone knowledgeable enough to perform the install (the dealers won't offer it as a supported upgrade). One of these years they'll make the entertainment hardware and software in these cars easier to upgrade, but right now automakers feel they would cannibalize sales by doing so (they would much rather you upgrade your vehicle, not just your NBT unit). In the US, the model year changed to 2017 as of April 1st as well. In other countries, the model has stayed 2016, but yes, any X3 and X4 built after April 1st, 2016 will have NBT2 (NBT EVO) and iDrive 5 installed. |

I recently saw the 2017 X3 on the highway at night cruising, and BMW did a really good job with the tail lights. Big difference compared with the "old".
