New iDrive update?
I was at the Philly auto show and sat in the '13 F10 M5 and its got (after I looked it up) the new 2012 connecteddrive/idrive 4.2/new idrive update. It's not much different but definitely smoother with some enhanced features and nicer looking menus and transitions. Does anyone know about this update and its availability on the F25? Even if its not new hardware will there be a software update that gives us some of the new look and features?

Unfortunatly, this upgrade is not available for the x3 yet until the LCI comes out, only in the upcoming MY 3,5 series.
But, heres the kicker, this won't be an easy upgrade, it would require changing the whole hardware of the iDrive system, as well the iDrive controller. |

Hmmm. I know it's not the idrive touch and yeah I know the hardware is upgraded... But I'm still hoping we get the new look......hopefully. I like updates!

The best case scenario is the F25 gets the updated Nav beginning with MY2014, which should start production in 2 months. |

I might have delayed my order if I would have been more informed

I thought that too but then there is always something around the corner. I reassure myself that when I come to change the car in 4 years time, there will be an even newer idrive or equivalent waiting for me. In the meantime and nearly 2 months into ownership I can still say that I am thoroughly enjoying my purchase in spite of some of the issues that come up from time to time.

If this was my dream car for myself, and I had one shot, honestly I would wait. But in this situation where, either way it's a cool car, wife will love it, and the new tech feature honestly wouldn't even be used much. Hotspot, big deal. Emails and texts, voice transcription, big deal. Faster and clearer, ok nice benefit but the current system is plenty fast and clear for her. Glad you specified LCI vs this update also....people are confusing the two. Still have found no concrete info on LCI, especially for MY14. The Z4's LCI was officially announced in December, with legit pics. Nothing on the X3. Have to think its going to be 2015 as you suggest. |

LCI should really come for MY2015, as BMW typically does LCI for the 5th model year of the 7 year cycle. And you're right, since MY2014 is right around the corner, we would have seen a lot more X3 LCI testers driving around. Like we now see the F10 LCI, which will be for MY2014. The first model year for the F10 was 2010, so LCI for MY2014 makes sense. Since the first model year for the F25 was 2011, we can deduct that it will be MY2015. Forgot to mention... when I was at the Performance Center in SC last week, I did see the X4 (twice), headed out of the parking lot to their 2 mile test track. It was too far away and too clad with camo to get a good look, but you can bet it's coming soon |

Does anyone knows why during the startup of the car, sometimes my iDrive LCD screen will show the BMW startup logo but more often, it just go straight to the iDrive menu?

Not sure, since I didn't take note yet. I wonder if it depends on how soon you start up after shutting off ignition. Perhaps starting again within ~20-min before the car goes to sleep eliminates it but after that time shows it?

Sure, like PC's, large screen TV's, etc. But whining about it makes you feel better.

1) Would mean that MY2013 remains in production for 19 or 20 months. March 2012 production thru Sept 2013 production. Not a common scenario. It makes more sense for MY2014 to begin in March 2013 and run through March 2014. Which leads to #2 below.... 2) BMW typically has the LCI in the 5th model year of the 7 year cycle. This would correspond with MY2015 for the F25. If they refresh the F25 in March 2014 (i.e. a year from now), it would fit right in with the introduction of the X4. Both SAVs will be new and fresh! Stranger things have happend, however. Only BMW knows at this point. |

http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showth...&highlight=lci But this thread is about the iDrive not the LCI and with the HW and SW change to the Sat/Nav coming in April for MY2014, I would think a new iDrive to be compatible with the new UI and touch interface would be logical. I think the LCI would have been revealed by now, and by revealed I dont mean a random magazine with "spy shots." I can't imagine that in December, BMW would release official LCI photos/info on the Z4 and nothing on the X3. Doesnt make sense.
