SURVEY: If you were NOT buying an X3 for your wife
It's striking how many posts about this car are by guys buying this car for their wife or with their wife or girlfriend. But there are also guys just buying an X3 for themselves.
If you are a guy and bought an X3 strictly for yourself and by yourself, what exterior/interior colors would you choose and would you get the M-Sport package if you could afford it? |

Interesting question! In our case, yes, I bought it for my wife; the color (space grey/beige) was actually suggested by the dealer since we did not manage to find a common choice. We were not interested in the M-package (imho, X and M are not compatible)

The guys who claim that they are buying the X3 for their wives are actually buying it for them. It is a good strategy to get the approval for the purchase happily and faster.

I bought the car for myself. Real reason for purchase tho was because we are not expecting our 2nd child and my 1st kid is 5 now. We needed something bigger. I was planning on getting the 2013 328i but once i heard the news i went shopping for a suv. It was between the Q5 and X3. X3 won becuase of how cheap I got it and because the dealer helped me get out of my lease 8 months early without much of a penalty.
My X3 is a 2013 X3 28i Alpine White/ Nevada Leather/premium /convience /sport / DHP / Cold weather 1/ Premium sound/ Parking sensors. I think thats pretty much it lol M-Sport package I thought about but in reality its pretty useless. All cosmetics. There are no performance increase what so ever. I rather use that 3k+ somewhere else like the sport package i with dhp and it still leaves some extra cash for other options. |

Sorry, I am a woman and the X3 is my car (husband has a 5 Series) - practicality with a toddler, maybe hopefully a second one some day soon...
I have an M Sport, in Carbon Black, Black leather interiorise, aluminium interior and exterior trim and roof rails. Absolutely love it. Would have loved the oyster interior, but not very practical with kids... |

Bought for myself; 35i black exterior, black interior, M-sport, black rails, no trim.
Never bought a car "for the woman", she buys her own (after I give her the best options out of her criterias). She drives a Fit, most definitely not my car lol. |

My wife bought it for me :X3 35d, Space Gray, Sports package, black interior (looks serious), and about every option possible, except for the sunroof and the super duper expensive sound system (I have the upgraded one).

Well in our case the X3 is our main car - but we traded in wife's car to get it and it was her idea as she had driven an X5 while on a ski holiday. She loved it and enjoyed the higher vantage point, and the power! (So its in her name!)
So we went to look at an X1 (nice but expensive with extras) X5 was too big and too expensive so went went for a good spec X3 for us (standard sound/ no gps / no xenons) - electric seats clinched it as Im 6ft and her indoors is 5ft and with profiles its a breeze! Re colour choices - well we both prefer the lighter interior and the alpine white is a great colour (at no extra cost). I like the "red" options myself but her indoors would not go for that!!!

Bought with the wife, meant to be the family car and I traded my 01 E46 330ci for it. Mineral silver, sand beige with premium, tech, Non-M sport, Cold weather I/II, premium sound, hud, apps. My wife drives it to work and I get it on the weekends. Paid $435 below invoice after incentives.
If I was buying one for myself, I would have gone with a Red M-Sport with Oyster and add DHP. Last edited by SoDigito; 11-28-2012 at 09:37 AM.. |

hmmm. had i bought it just for myself, I would have gotten exactly all the packages we have now (no m-sport) and interior chestnut/fineline, but with the exterior color blue...although I don't mind the white.

If it was me, I would have gotten Carbon Black with black interior.
As a compromise to my wife's preference for white cars we decided AW/black.

Got mine for me in 2011. Alpine Wht with Nevada beige interior.
Wife was not involved in decision. No M package. Premium, Tech, Nav , There was talk that this was a chick car but it's just the wife and me and she has her car. I could care less what they call it. I absolutely am 100% satisfied with this vehicle.

Downsized from a fully optioned 2011 QX56 - which wasn't needed any longer due to changes in the family.. My girl and I decided on a Titanium Silver/Black X3 because the X5 replacement (F15) is right around the corner, and the size is right for our current needs (2 year old and an English bulldog). We went with a the SAP pack over MSport because
1) We prefer the look of SAP in this crossover and 2) we have a ///M Car in the stable as well. I call it the shuttle, and being a male have no problems whatsover driving it X3 35i is a true sleeper

Bought for myself, 35d MSport with Deep Sea Blue and oyster interior. Thought the colour combination worked well and had had 2 silver cars before so wanted a change.
The MSport is nice to have. I can manage 39 mpg on a long journey if I'm careful but can surprise a few away from the lights when the need arises. I dont want to be in the position that I cant get the car off my drive for a week and a half which happened a couple of years ago with my 535d. So far I havent regretted it, roll on the bad weather.....:-) |

Mine is ordered, waiting very impatiently...I agonised over the exterior colour - I've only actually seen a F25 in the flesh in Black (Sapphire) / Space Grey / Deep Sea Blue / Titanium Silver. Looked at several other colours on X6 at the dealers.
I prefer red, but thought the VR was a bit more rusty than red, black and white terrible to keep clean...ended up with Deep Sea Blue. Thought the silvers both looked spot on but my present Merc is silver so fancied a change. Interior is Black - boring but practical for the muck and dogs. Went for the M Sport, prefer the seats / full colour body and the dark wood trim. The interior brushed Aluminium is smart but have it in the Merc again so fancied the change. Went for the contrasting aluminium window trim and roof rails - have seen this on a SE spec in DSB and loved it.
