For the USA, the new F30 328i was recently rated as 24 MPG City and 36 MPG Highway (USA gallons). See here:
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/Find....n=sbs&id=32175 What do you USA guys think it will be in the X3? How much do you think the AWD and extra weight will reduce those numbers? (By teh way, ignore the picture in that website. It's an incorrect photo of a E90) |

By the way, I'm really excited to hear the N20 engine will be coming to the X3 in USA. I was doubtful that a 4 cylinder could drive an SUV nicely, but after driving the Audi Q5 with its 4 cylinder turbo, I'm now a believer. The Q5 was quite zippy and I only imagine BMW's engine will only be zippier and faster. In fact, I thought the Q5 felt better with the 4 cyl engine than the 3.2 6 cyl engine.
I think I might wait until later this year in purchasing a BMW X3 with the N20 engine. What's funny is that I'm an Audi die-hard fan. But the extra quickness and suburb gas mileage of the N20 engine is too hard to pass up. I drive a lot on the highway and could use an engine that sips gasoline. |

Pricing
The German price for the 4-cylinder is 300 euros up on the 6-cylinder. The equipment levels for the base model are exactly the same.
So for the US model, pricing is unlikely to be a distinguishing factor in deciding to choose for the 6-cylinder now or the 4-cylinder later. In fact, they are likely to go up by a few hundred bucks as well. |
