2012 Bmw X3 35i N55 performance mapping question. JB?
Hi,
looking to buy a performance chip for my x3 from this site : http://burgertuning.com/N55_Jb_BMW_P...nce_Tuner.html has anybody used this mapping the N55 engine fo the x3? any good? can this be traced by the dealer? Are there other tuners out there that offer ECU mapps on this vehicle? Thanks. |

Did a lot of research on the tuning N55 with what's out on the market and what is potentially coming out in the future. JB is the only product released for the F25 X3, but I would imagine that DINAN will come out with something shortly and BMW performance may too. Given the cost, increase of power, ease of install and removal and previous reviews on other N55 models, I felt that the JB tune would be a good tune. To many users, it apparently takes 45 mins to install (four sensors total) and 10 minutes after the first time to install and uninstall. Furthermore, it is completely undetectable by BMW once removed. I ordered mine with the CanScan tool just in case there were ever any hidden codes or if if Stage 2 gets released.

It would really surprise me if BMW cannot detect this. I'd imagine the car logs peak boost which would be a tell tail sign. It seems to risky to me to void the warranty. Maybe when my warranty is up!

I'm just kind of getting sick of people feeling the need to remove parts/ecu software like these for warranty issues so I'll post this...its about the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975:
http://www.impalaclub.com/naisso/magmoss.htm (edit) I'll make it simpler: It is ILLEGAL for the dealer to "void your warranty" because of aftermarket parts. Unless of course the part is responsible for a problem and they PROVE that.

At the end of the day this is a cost - benefit analysis on the personal owner of the vehicle. I personally find it to be too risky. |

Umm I mean that is your personal opinion but this is a fairly common knowledge subject for dealers and most enthusiasts and if any dealer was trying to "swindle" you all it would take is one complaint to the FTC and they will deal with the legal stuff.

I don't have as much faith as you do in the FTC apparently!

i realize that if you throw on a new turbo and get rediculous torque numbers and the tranny fails its obviously gonna be your responsibility to pay for it but what I was getting at was that your entire warranty doesnt just dissapear because of that just the specific problem that you caused and with something as simple as a stage 1 JB tune there arent too many issues. And as far as the transmission goes, BMW realeses figures as to how much torque the tranny is rated at and its usually significantly higher than how much power the car comes with stock.

Dinan should have something soon...
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=636503 Good info by Lotus - according to those figures the Dinan tune would have to seriously be detuned or it would greatly exceed the max recommended torque for the tranny.

Some cars can handle the additional power, some not. A good, modern example is the Mitsubishi Evo X MR with the dual clutch transmission. The "max" torque is easy to beat with simple bolt-ons and some tuning. Now, if you only use 200 lbs/ft of torque everyday, there would be no problem, but usually, when you mod your car to 400+ lbs/ft, you use all of them daily The older Evo IX (or the manual transmission one) transmission was able to handle more torque... There is a reason why BMW delivers the 35i this way : Beefed up tranny ? More $$$. Tuning the A/F ratios on the ECU, or raising the boost for more power ? You reduce engine life, possibly less emission compliance. Then do the same, but put forget internals from the factory so the engine doesn't blow up ? More $$$. Less restrictive exhaust ? More cabin noise for 95% of buyers. Bigger brakes ? More $$$. Modify your car, but understand what you are doing to the whole balance. And then assume if it breaks |
