Yokohama A/T-S 'all terrain' tyres on 3.0D
I've a new 3.0D being delivered in a couple of weeks
The car is mostly going to be used for towing and needs to be able to get heavy trailers in and out of fields and cope with unsurfaced roads etc. My current plan is to replace the tyres on delivery with a set of 4 Yokohama all terrains that can be seen here: http://www.tyretraders.com/tyreInfor...1799HG012.html I was just wondering if anyone else on here had tried a new X3 on anything more aggressive than the factory fit tyres? |

This tire(tyre) will reduce the amount of rubber on the road by about 20% and your ground clearance by about a 1/2 inch. If your going in rough conditions you might want to think about a bigger tire.

true, unfortunately to get all terrain bmw tires usually don't fit bmw standard spec tyre size so u either get bigger or smaller tires.. which affects a number of things.

The factory fit tyres my car is coming with are 225/60/17 and the Yokahama's are exactly the same size, so no change here.
Ground clearance is not an issue, no plans to go 'off roading'! On tarmac handling is not really an issue either, my driving style is 'relaxed' (also called grandad!) I'm mostly worried about noise from these tyres... |

Bad assumption on my part. I assumed that your tyres were the same size as ours on this side of the pond. 245/55/17.
A smooth ride and noise level will probably suffer a bit, but it's better than getting stuck in a field! |

The UK specification 3.0D cars are rated to tow a maximum of 2,400 KG (5,300 pounds) I'm concerned about road noise too, which is why I was asking if anyone had tried different tyres on these vehicles? |

guycashmore,
Interesting you should choose Yokohamas. We have a 30d on order for a late August/early September delivery which - for the Australian market - come standard with runflats (Dunlops I believe). With the amount of country driving I do I don't accept the use of runflats and intend to replace the runflats with conventional tyres on delivery. After a far amount of research on sites such as 'tirerack' in the US and 'carbonblack' here in Australia, I have settled on Yokohama H/T-S (Geo G51) as a replacement tyre. Not as an aggressive pattern as the A/T-S, but should do the job. Tony |

Runflats are a cost + option in the UK. My car is being delivered in about 2 weeks time, the Yokohamas have arrived already and look to be a very well made tyre, I'll post as soon I've had chance to try them! |
