I custom ordered my '20 M40i with the factory space saver spare tire which I assume, and hope, fits.

You should be fine. Check this out and read the note about M series. https://www.amazon.com/Complete-Comp...ci_mcx_mr_hp_d

ugh....was all jacked up to do this when I needed new tires - but just realized this isn't going to work with 19" wheels??
OR is it the same donut with 18" or 19" wheels?

Non run flats, standard cargo capacity, service contract with AAA, flat-bed tow to nearest repair shop.

My 2021 X3 came with 19 inch non run flatl and has factory spare. I don't think it makes any difference what size tire comes on your car , the same size spare fits them all. The only issue is that on some models like the completion, it may not fit over the front brakes. you could move the rear to the front and then put the spare on the rear.

They have the same spare for all M40i's. I believe it is 18" - there is a thread with a photo of size. There is no reason to believe it will not clear the M-sport brakes. Many 18" winter wheels do as well.
The X3Ms come with a 19 inch donut because I think those brakes are even bigger.

Yeah, weird because the X4 doesn't have the floor raised with a spare.

I have a spare rim and tire on the side of my house. Jack and breaker bar in my Z4 trunk. (Z4 has non runflats and blowouts on those tires is common) I just uber myself the tire if i'm local.
I think i will do the same on my X3. And since i have the room now will just throw a spare in the back on a long trip. I hate runflats also.

Since where on this subject. I was wondering if it would be cheaper to get a donut spare off ebay intended for Audi VW . The bolt pattern is 5x112 which BMW has now switched over to also. Anyone want to weigh in?

I decided to ditch the run flats and carry a traditional tire plug kit along with the mushroom type plugs, and 12 VDC air pump. It all fits into the space easily. We also have roadside assistance, so if I can't or don't feel like fixing it I can have it towed.

I think I've had two flats in 48 years of driving. One I changed with a spare and one I plugged on the side of the road, even though I had a spare. It was just easier.

By the looks of it, that spare is too wide to fit

Maybe a waste of time because it's not confirmed an audi wheels is same bolt pattern. But your thinking the width because the BMW donut is narrower than the spare rim (so your talking hight?)
I will be needing new tires VERY soon and like to mimic this spare hack - THANKS for posting!

Just got a M40i and did this....can confirm it fits but it is tight. I opted to just remove the floor trim so I don't have to cut and modify it, and can always return to stock. Plus now there is more room in there for little tools and bits etc.

Looks great! So, to be sure, you still have the floor cover above, correct?

Yes, correct. I reinstalled the floor. Without lifting the floor everything looks the same. There is actually space between the tire and the floor. I might put something on top of the tire to help support the floor - I removed a big styrofoam piece that clearly helped support the floor. It isn't weak, but you can def flex it now.

How do you have the tire secured in the space?
or does it just sit there loose?

Thank you!

Seems that there are a few points available to install some strapping for securing the tire.

Yeah there are. I still need to figure out how I'm going to strap it down. I'll try to update once I do.

If there is space between the tyre and the floor, would a 245 tyre fit in there?
