Super Sport 4s are what I'll be putting on my summer wheels when I get them in the spring. I initially resisted the Michelin Super Sports in my last car due to price but got them as my second set of summer tires and was blown away. Amazing grip with a predictable breaking point and good wet weather performance

The X4 and X3 M cars were running them in recent reveals. They will likely be standard equipment for those cars FWIW.

Would love those but we get snow in Maryland and I only want one set of tires.

I'm assuming the wheel sizes/offsets/tires are the same on the x3 and x4

I currently live in the pacific NW and my car came with 21's and summer tires [terrible idea for this area]. I've been investigating swapping tires for all seasons but there arent options in the 21" size so it seems I'm buying wheels as well.

Thinking of going 20x9 up front and 20x10 rears
I dont completely understand offsets - if I want the wheels to stick out a bit more than stock what offset would I need?

Tire-wise am torn between Continental DWS 06 and the new Michelin AS3+. I had DWS06s on my previous car [AMG GLA45] but have heard the AS3+ are much better tires. I've been a Continental guy for a long long time so switching is a dilemma for me. Anyone have experience with the AS3+?

Finally got my wheels and tires installed. Advanti DST Svelto 20x9 with Michelin Pilot AS3+. Overall, they are a bit more compliant than the stock 21s and slightly quieter. They feel just as grippy and sharp during cornering. I’ll probably just run these from now on as I like the way they look and they should be significantly lighter than the stock setup.

looks good. I'm leaning towards those tires as well. Did you go with a square or staggered setup? If staggered - what width rear wheels and what size tires?

I'm interested in a nice multi-spoke design and am digging these a lot! Being able to use BMW center caps is a really nice touch too. Very nice, thanks. Now I have another option to consider.

I went with a square setup: 20x9 all around with 245/45R20 tires.

Yeah, I ordered some 68mm BMW center caps off of Amazon and they fit. Not the easiest Advanti center caps to get off, though!

The Pilot AS 3+ look good too... they appear to have a more “square” profile to them. Abcsoup, mind posting a couple more pics... some maybe from the back or a 45 degree angle? Thanks, and wheels look great!

Thanks for the comments, everyone; and yes, I'll try to post some more photos soon from the back and quarter view angles.

One reason I got them was because they remind me of the 726i 21" individual wheels but without the busy-ness of the double spokes, so with the BMW caps they look to me like they could've been from the factory. Also, these wheels are only 24 lbs each, which is way less than the 35 and 37 lb weights of the stock front/rear 21s (according to an earlier thread by Max Well). I'm hoping it will make the car feel even more responsive and improve efficiency, although I haven't pushed it since I got them recently. From what I've gathered, over 40 lbs of unsprung weight reduction is pretty substantial. Hopefully, they'll be just as durable!

Here's a good review of the Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 high-performance all-season tire in Winter. The Michelin AS3+ and several other A/S tires are also included in the review. I just got the the Conti's, but have not had a chance to see how they do in snow yet:

I've owned four sets of the DWS06 on four different cars and they are a great tire. Snow traction is great for an AWD car...on a RWD car they are decent but still an A/S. One drawback is they have soft sidewalls and there is a noticeable lack of steering feedback compared to OEM RFT's. I haven't ran them on a M40i (they are on my 340i) but I suspect the same will be apparent. I've also ran the AS3+ and they are a better all around tire in my opinion albeit generally quite a bit more expensive. If I ran a tire all year round and wanted to sacrifice a bit of winter performance the AS3+ is the superior tire. If you wanted something for just the colder months then the DWS06 is I think is more attractive.

Agreed...the DWS06 do feel different than the Alenza RFT's that came stock on my X3 M40i. I would have gone with the AS3+ but was concerned that they don't do well in snow according to TireRack.

I agree that the AS3+ is not that great in snow. I've used them before in snow a couple times and it did not inspire confidence in my other cars. Its performance in the dry/wet/cold, however, is great.

Did HRE say those wheels are load rated for the sav?

I ask only because I tried buying a set last year and they didn't have fitment information and wouldn't confirm if they were load rated for the m40i:

They offered to quote me style 540 throwbacks .
