Maintenance and service after warranty? Dealership, other?
I just realized that my X3's service and maintenance contract ends at the end of the month. While getting my last oil change, I discovered I also need to replace a radiator to the tune of $1500cdn.
Before I realized maintenance and warranty was over as of end of month, I was planning to have the work done at the dealership. They've always treated me well: loaners or paying for uber to and from, but they also charge $160cdn / hour for labor. Realizing maintenance and warranty is over, I'm much more seriously investigating a third party shop. I would assume a reputable shop is closer to $130/h labor and that they would be smart enough to know when they can source after market vs genuine BMW parts which would be a cost saver. Down side is I suspect they don't offer the same amenities (lounge, rides to and from, etc.). I feel like going to a third party reputable shop is probably the answer post warranty, but I'm curious what the consensus is from the community? Small positive: since warranty is over, there's no reason not to invest in Bootmod3.....well apart from the fact that I have to pay $1500ish just to keep the vehicle working and another $1000 on bootmod may be a poor financial decision at the moment. |

After warranty, I have no problem to go 3rd party workshop.
I would just prefer that workshop knows BMW's and have access to example BMW "online service book" (or whatta hell it is officially called).

I typically go third party after my warranty / maintenance is over. When you think about it, if you know the mechanic they will typically do a better job than the dealership's guys. Dealerships suck to a large degree. At best, they just have access to resources but their job is still to do the work for the least amount of time on their part and to maximize revenue.
If you have a local guy that you trust or other enthusiasts trust, that is the better option. |

Indy is usually less but you gotta have a good one. Also why a new radiator? How many miles/km?
