Ambient Light Strips...
Hi everyone! First time poster, so be gentle.
I've had my 2021 X3 for a couple of months now, and am enjoying things so far. There is just one issue that I have noticed, but not sure if it would be considered a problem worth getting the dealer to look at. The ambient light strips in the front doors look pretty evenly lit, but I've noticed that the one on the drivers door looks like it sticks out further than the one on the passenger side, such that you can clearly see the upper edge which you can't on the other one which is much flatter with the trim - I've attached a couple of photos. Obviously in the scheme of things this is quite a minor thing, but I do find it a bit irritating. I am not sure if it is something I should go back to the dealer about. Is this just fitted badly or am I expecting too much? What are everyone's thoughts? Gus |

Hey Gus, welcome to our little corner of the internet. This is generally one of the better online car forums, so hopefully no one will ever beat you up for asking questions we all have.
The unevenness of the ambient lighting is pretty commonplace I think. My car has it and I've learned to live with it. I think that others have had theirs replaced. I'm sure they'll chime in. All-in-all, do what's right for you. If you're working with a good service department, they'll want to keep you happy. Welcome again. ![]()

yeah man, I'd definitely get that fixed. Once you see it you can't unsee it.
Not to hi-jack your ambient lighting thread but my ambient lighting looks jacked too. I just recently got a 21 m40i and from the get go I felt like top ambient light strip looked a little strange (both sides). Like the light isn't evenly lit on the whole strip and in photos below some spots are clearly brighter than others. Reminds me of cheap LED strips made in china that I put behind my TV for ambient lighting. Anyone have anything like this that they have taken to dealer and had it fixed or am I asking for too much? ![]() ![]() ![]() |

never mind, did a search on the forums and seems like a common problem on these cars. Will schedule trip to the dealer and see if they can get me new light strips without completely turning this car into a rattle machine.

Thanks for your replies.
The lights themselves are fairly uniformly lit, so that isn't an issue. The problem is it just looks like the strip itself sticks out more on the right (UK drivers side) while it's flush on the left. Like I say, it's fairly minor really, but if it shouldn't be like that, now I've noticed it I will ask the dealer to take a look. If it is uneven on others cars then maybe it's not worth it... |
