2022 X3 M40i Ventilated Seats
I know this has been discussed before in this forum but I didn't see a whole lot of comments talking about if the LCI changed the overall comfort of the ventilated seats, which some people thought were too stiff pre-LCI. Anybody compare the LCI vent seat comfort and non-vent?
I ended up ordering non-ventilated SensaTec because I wanted Tacora Red and side bolsters but now I'm thinking I should've gotten the vent. I live in the mid-Atlantic so maybe not as pressing as somebody in Arizona or Florida, but still maybe would've been a nice feature. |

I had SensaTec on my previous X3 and live in MN so lots of hot, cold and in between weather. You’ll be perfectly happy with SensaTec and the red is hot no pun intended. Great choice.
Now if your using the vehicle for a lot of road trips I could see the ventilated seats being nice but I’ve never had them so i can’t comment on that. Ive just read like you that they make an already firm seat firmer.

leather ventilated
Can't compare to previous models, but have the 2022 x3 m40i with ventilated vernasca leather. It took some adjusting, but I have found a comfortable position. Had to tilt the seat back further than I normally do. You can feel the lumber support mechanism directly on your spine if you have zero adjustment on it. However, once you start increasing the lumbar support, the mechanism seems to move forward and outward toward the sides, which gives more of a softer suspended feeling, and keeps the mechanism from pressing directly on your spine. If you move the lumbar too far forward, it seems to press on your kidneys. I'm 6' 2" with a long torso and 175 lbs. I've had lower back surgery, so am probably more sensitive than others. It's primarily my wife's car and she has no problems and is 5' 10".
I did do some looking at the online parts supply stores and youtube videos on seat cover replacement to get a better understanding of how ventilated seats work. They have a wide ribbon comprised of small cellophane\plastic tubes with holes in them. The ribbon is laid between the foam cushions and perforated leather and runs down the length of the seat back and bottom cushions. A blower blows into the ribbon pack and distributes the air throughout the seat perforations. I think the ribbon does add some stiffness to the seat compared to those without it. For me, I like the ventilated seats due to hot muggy summers even though there is a bit of a trade off. |
