This is a global press release / announcement:

BMW X3 and BMW X4: extended standard equipment, new equipment lines, innovative options.

From April 2016 the standard equipment of the BMW X3 and BMW X4 will also include multifunction buttons on the steering wheel, rain-sensing wipers and Cruise Control with Braking function. And new equipment lines will create additional scope for individualisation. The range of variants available as an alternative to standard specification will include the new Advantage model alongside the xLine and M Sport models. The Advantage model will include Park Distance Control (PDC) with sensors at the front and rear, two-zone automatic climate control, the storage package and, in the case of the BMW X3, also automatic tailgate operation (already part of standard equipment for the BMW X4 Sports Activity Coupe).

The Chestnut Bronze metallic shade will be introduced as a new exterior paint finish for the BMW X3 and BMW X4. And new variants will also be added to the selection of optional light-alloy wheels. New equipment options available for both models include telephony with wireless charging and the wi-fi hotspot function. Working together with the optional Navigation system Professional, the iDrive operating system now also offers innovative menu graphics for the Control Display in the BMW X3 and BMW X4, using tile symbols arranged side-by-side.

Good news, Jason, and thank you for sharing. It will be interesting to see how many of our 'Wish List' ( http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1015499 ) items make it into the production vehicles. :)

yep, biggest mistake they made with the X4 was keeping the X3 interior which was already dated. I actually bought the X6 because of this. Only cost me $100/month extra on the lease and the interior is 100X better than the X3/X4. X4 really needs a more luxurious interior if it wants to compete with the Porsche Macan, RR Evoque and upcoming Audi Q6?

This must be for non US-Spec Vehicles. The multifunction buttons on the steering wheel, rain-sensing wipers and Cruise Control with Braking function (Dynamic Cruise) are already Standard on X3/X4 in US.

That was my thought too. These are standard on Canadian models too.

And also already standard on Australian-spec models. Only thing new is the new colour. Must refer to European markets.

I want an X3 with a crankcase dipstick, the kind you wipe with a rag, and a donut spare tire along with the runflats.

You are asking for the Vintage Package Premium Plus, that comes with a carburetor and a premium velour rag for inside-windshield clearing on rainy days.

It conflicts with the other packages and can only be added with Rusty Brown solid exterior colour.

:D

I like it. All joking aside however I do hope BMW at least follow the lead of their competitors and the recently released F48 X1 and at least include the option or the space for a spare. I note with interest the new Jag F-Pace comes with a space saver spare as standard and the option of a full size spare.

On the subject of no manual oil dipstick - I notice Volvo is also copping a fair bit of flak over its new line of Drive-E engines which also have no manual dipstick. Instead they have a poorly calibrated electronic dipstick which requires a visit back to the dealer every time it plays up (which is apparently happening quite regularly). I've no problems with electronic dipsticks themselves, but to exclude an manual dipstick to check against alarms on the electronic dipstick is just penny-pinching at the extreme.

Nothing wrong with a dipstick, very retro. So are 15" wheels. ;-)
A spare tire would be nice though.

Has anyone thought it was done purposely to keep more value in the X6?

I feel BMW know what they are doing. Can you imagine if the X4 was a carbon copy but just smaller?

No one would get the X6

It would be great if the Advantage model line allowed ordering sport seats as an option in the US, instead of only bundling that option into the M Sport package (which has limited paint-color selection and a "different" look) -- just as you could order them on the former Sport Activity model.

Does anyone know if this is the case?
