Hi everyone, I ran a search and didn't see anything like this being discussed. I'm currently driving a 2012 F07 (550 GT) and maintenance costs have become staggeringly high. We were just told the oil pan (1 of 2) needed to be replaced and the estimate is $8k.

At this point, I think the car is truly only worth $8-10k and even less for trade in value. I really like the X3 loaner that we're using from the dealership. For those with an M40i, do you have any thoughts or opinions for maintenance costs after the warranty period is up?

My assumption is that a mid-size SUV is going to be more cost-friendly than the giant GT that I'm currently driving. Everything about it just feels expensive to repair. The motorized shades, self closing doors, V8 gas guzzler, etc.

I know that no one even owns an m40i past the manufacturers warranty and each car is different, so there's no way to truly answer this hypothetical, but I'm turning to the experts here for this thought exercise to help me make a big decision down the line. Maybe I'm thinking about this all wrong and I'm sure folks here will set me straight. TIA!
