Buying a "demo" M40i??

Found a 2022 M40i priced low. Has two accidents on the CarFax. Dealer said they have no more information than what’s on CarFax but that it came from “BMW Financial Services and was a demo vehicle”

Unfortunately they couldn’t supply with a repair or service order for work done.

I don’t mind getting a slightly wrecked vehicle as long as warranty would still be valid and repairs were done right.

As anyone had experience with this, how do I know for certain the warranty is still valid on it?

If bmw really did the work wouldn’t there be some type of way I could find out more details from them?

Be like Sir Robin the Brave and bravely run away. Nothing good can come of this.

Yea it’s a little sketch. But my main thing is how would this work with bmw warranty?

I mean if the warranty still holds and I can’t find anything really wrong with it by driving and giving a hard look.

Run. They are purposefully not telling you what happened.

Technically, yes, the car would still be under warranty, that is until a component that was damaged and replaced breaks. The servicing dealer will then tell you what you already know, the cars been repaired and unfortunately since that part is not factory original, it’s not covered. Or, the part was damaged as a result of the accident and its failure is not factory related.
My cars been in an accident and I can tell you what happened, how it happened, what was repaired and where it was repaired. When I decided to sell this car, I’d be happy to discuss this with any potential buyers and let them decide. Your situation seems just a bit fishy. The two dates could be multiple parties disclosing the same accident, but unless someone can paint a picture for you, I’d stay away.

I've been to ABZ a few times in the past and every time I check out the cars I've wanted that was listed, there always had some red flags - or something that doesn't pass my sniff test.

A few days ago I found the Alpina B7 that I've been looking for with the right color and options, but I just couldn't get myself to check it out because it's in ABZ motors (again) and its carfax has some missing info for some reason. Sure I can pay another provider to get the history but I don't want to be disappointed again.

Nothing against ABZ, they seem to have some decent feedback, but it's probably just my luck and/or pure coincidence.

That said, I would pass on this listing. There were some nice and reasonably priced M40is listed before Christmas around Houston but I no longer seem them now.

The dealer did tell me they get a lot of BMW “demos” and their CarFax is like that. So maybe some truth lol

Too many questions. Not enough answers. They are hiding something and trying to get rid of their inventory.

If I had demoed the car, you definitely don't want to buy it.

Demo cars can be a couple things. Service loaners, managers car, test drive cars, factory cars for regional people etc. usually the dealers have no problems selling these cars. Two things concern me here. 1 its coming from BMW financial - this tells me it was leased or purchased via BMW - fishy for a ‘demo’ car. Two, it’s been in an accident. Keep looking, you’ll find your diamond in the rough!

Alright I’ve been tempted.

If dealer lets me bring it to a shop for a PPI and get it on a lift. Would this not give you guys a big level of relief?

Mainly if they can spot some repairs and confirm it’s bmw parts?

I was considering ABR Houston for the PPI as they are mentioned on here a few times.

Also I read on here somewhere that if bmw did do the repair work then any bmw dealership should be able to pull up records of it. Not sure how true that is but I’m giving that a try.

Yeah, having a car inspected is a good thing. But I still wouldn't risk buying a demo car with an accident history. That's just me though.

This is true! Almost every BMWs can access car's service history if it's done by BMW.

I get it. I’m not really sold on this one. But if bmw records show stuff idk I might rise it with 28k miles left on warranty.

What would be your like main worry with it? Like basically what’s the “worst that happen”

No clue about the car's past is my biggest concern. Sounds like neither your dealer nor CarFax can provide this info, so try grabbing the service records and see what work has been done. That should give you a clearer picture!

BMW service records will only show mechanical history, not body work. Multiple people have already told you to steer clear of this car. I recommend you listen to them.
