My 2020 X3M Competition
Hi Guys,
After selling my 991.1 Turbo S and buying a 2020 X3M Competition I thought it would be nice to create an account on this forum since I've used it alot as a guest gathering information before buying one! I used to own a 700HP M140I Xdrive and this engine was such a reliable monster that the next logical stap had to be a S58 X3M, after getting kind of dissapointed by the reliability of the 911. Since I'm going to use the car for daily driving but mostly dragracing, I've already ordered the following parts; BC forged wheels MSS spring kit VRSF downpipes Fuel it Ethanol sensor Pure stage 2+ turbo's The modifications on the car will be done by PureTurbosEU in collaboration with HC-Performance from Denmark which will tune the car remotely over BootMod3. Goal with the car is at least breaking the 1/4 record ( which is at around 10.2s if I check the Dragy leaderboard ) for the X3M of this generation. I'll try to post updates of my progress here every now and then so stay tuned, also feel free to check out my instagram @1StockX3M! |

1StockX3M Nice color choice. But I'm slightly biased since I have the same exterior spec. I love the gloss black trim on the lower valance of the rear bumper. And I may be doing the same things to that lower portion of my rear bumper too. How many miles were on you X3 MC before you acquired it... ?

Congrats on starting your new project and good luck. I’m curious to see what the S58 can do with bigger turbos with more boost up top. You might break into the 9s in the 1/4-mile. Can the rest of the drive train handle it?

Awesome news. This is exciting to read about a full out race X3.
Now being realistic at that power level I hope you are prepared for potential broken parts. Going that fast requires grip. And a solid launch will determine for all of us how many tries you get on all the other components besides the engine, before replacements are needed.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys, appreciate it!
goldfz8 As far as I know there aren't any X3M or X4M's in Europe running the Pure upgrade, guess there are a handfull in the US probably running it but not posting times or keeping it for themselves. But the fact people are running high 9s stock turbo on the G80 platform makes me really excited what the upgrade is going to do in a heavy SAV! FrankieNuo I'm planning to drive this car around for a year or so and then make the switch to a G80 M3 Xdrive. Reason why I didn't go for the M3 straight away is because they're still incredibly expensive over here ( I'm talking 150K USD on average for a used one with like 5K mi on the clock, while brand new theyre going for like 185K USD with the right options like the trackpack etc ) This way I can enjoy the potential of the engine already, and when switching over to the other platform use the parts again on the new build! Kevin_The_Clean1 Thanks! The black trim makes it look a little more aggresive without becoming too much. I received the car literally a few days ago, there is 12K miles on the odo atm. SearsTurnSix Thanks alot, really looking forward to start with this project. Breaking into the 9's would be awesome but for now I just stick to the goal of 10.2s because I have no idea how hard it's going to be to achieve this. Drivetrain wise I think the gearbox and transfercase will be fine, but axle wise I might break something. But thats the pay to play risk though! We don't have prepped tracks over here so all tests will be conducted on normal asphalt, that does make it a little bit safer in terms of stress on the drivetrain parts. DFTBA Thanks alot! Cant wait to get started suby01 Reason why I partially chose to buy the X3M, apart from the fact that the G80 is too expensive atm, is because I didn't find that much full out race X3M's. Makes the challenge more enjoyable, although this means more R&D & potentially breaking more stuff. I've been wondering about something for a while now and since my car is still stock awaiting parts, I couldnt test this myself but did anyone here tried launching ( brake boosting ) from 2nd gear yet? On the F20 & F30 platforms with their HP50 gearbox, this results in a way better 0-60 time, 60FT and thus 1/4 times especially on cars that are running turbo upgrades due to better traction and 1 shiftpoint less, so I'm really curious if anyone with a stage 2 or turbo upgraded car for instance has done this so far and collected some data! |

Update time!
Managed to collect some data before the modding starts. Best results so far stock: 100-200: 9.5 sec 1/4: 11.70 sec 0-60: 3.57 sec without the 1ft rollout correction Performed on OEM Continental tires and regular 93 octane, car is incredibly stable even on back to back runs showing times all within almost a tenth of each other. Times seems on par with similar stock X3M comps so I'm happy with that! We also installed the MSS spring kit today to give the car a little more of an aggressive look, improve the comfort level and aero ( in regard to Dragy times ). Last but not least the headlights got the lightest PPF tint, a nice but subtile touch if you ask me! Next week we'll start with the tuning part beginning with mounting the ethanol content sensor & a stage 1 tune on 93 octane through Bootmod3 on wednesday followed by a custom 3'' exhaust and catless downpipes with an E30 stage 2 ots tune on friday. We will retain the stock backbox. The car will be on PureTurbosEU Dynojet for stock and stage 1 data, and after placing the exhaust/downpipes and stage 2 tune again of course to see the difference! Turbo's are also ordered, as well as wheels, tires etc, but lets focus on decent stage 2 dragy times and enjoying the car for now! |

Good stuff so far! Nearly identical to my bone stock 1/4 mile. It's impressive how consistent these vehicles are.
Keep us posted!

I did the same and they quoted me six weeks because it’s “busy season” (spring?). Just got an email last week they were finished and ready to ship. About three weeks exactly.

Good luck getting the low 10 or high 9. Seems like the problem is your going to gain a bunch of top end and it will be a beast from a roll with the additional power. But the lack of being able to raise the launch rpm to spool the larger turbos is going to kill the launch. You need to be able to sixty foot in the 1.5 range and the larger turbos are going to hit soft on the launch.

rdougherty85 After spending some time on the X3 forum the wheelsetup BrockDM had on his X3M looked the best so I ordered a set of BC Forged RZ01 in the exact sizes he posted in his thread.
I've ordered a set of Continental SportContact 7 tires in the sizes 265/295 after reading alot of reviews about it being the slightly better alternative for the Michelin Pilot 4S ( and trust me, I'm a Michelin fanboy ) BadGTR Thanks! I've chosen for the PS2 instead of the PS2+ which means up to 100whp less peak power ( when maxing out and we're not going to do that stock engine ), but 400-500 rpm quicker spool which we need on the launch. Curious to see the difference between the PS2 and PS2+ iWrap_cars is going to mount on his car. We mounted VRSF catless downpipes, a Fuel-It Ethanol sensor and installed an E30 tune on the car, and she's already doing steady 10.7s and 0-60s in 2.9xs full weight. Some dyno figures on regular 93 octane, compared to E30: I also got the front windshield tinted: That's about it for last week, car is scheduled for a custom E50 tune and full exhaust by the end of this week. Finally getting rid of the horrible OPF that our euro cars come with as standard. I've also tried launching the car from 2nd gear btw, but after building up boost it seems to auto shift back to 1nd before releasing the brake which means I cannot let the car take off in 2nd. Is there any way I can make this happen i.e brake boost in 2nd without launch control engaging? Also I'm experiencing terrible amounts of wheel hop on the stock Conti Sport Contact 6 tires that are currently mounted on the car. I've tried a wide variety of tire pressures in the range from 29 to 40 psi but the hop seems to increase as power increases which make a perfect launch almost impossible on the 700whp map. Any tips or anyone experiencing the same issue? That's it for today, I'll get back to you guys after the custom E50 tune! |

Man things are progressing lovely for you! Glad I could help!
Those are healthy trap speeds as well as the 100-200. Sadly you aren't the first to report a fair amount of wheel hop on the Conti 6s. That should reduce quite a bit on the new setup. I also commend you for jumping on the 7s. I've been following the reviews as well and they seem like a huge improvement from everything else in the Conti line up. I'm a Michelin fan boy as well and I think those are next on my list once we get them stateside. I jumped from 93 to E60 tuning this week and you are in for a treat. These cars get down! Thanks for sharing

Can't wait for the wheels to arrive, they looked so awesome on your car that it was basically a no brainer for me I really hope the Conti 7's are better regarding traction then their predecessor because last few LC attempts the car first started to hop, and then it just does a rolling burnout even continuing when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear No bueno since I mainly use the car for dragracing I'm going to try and find out if I can get the car to launch in 2nd gear somehow, it does show 2nd gear as a possibility so I hope if LC doesn't engage, it stays in that gear when brake boosting.. |
