Featured on BIMMERPOST.com My M240i F23 and certainly the F83 M4 definately have a big difference in exhaust tones between modes Is this normal. Thanks in advance. |

Efficient engine mode has the valves closed. Sport and Sport Plus opens them, if the exhaust sound button is on (green light on). I notice a difference when switching from Efficient to Sport Plus, or pressing the exhaust sound button off/on. But no, it's not as pronounced as it is on an M3/M4.

Highly recommend a valve controller. Stock settings do not allow the valves to be open 100% nor can they be programmed to be. I went with the SST controller, great quality and price.

You can buy the controller, which I did on my previous 22 M3, or use steel zip ties to keep the valves open. Threads on how to do it. I did the zip ties on my 23 X3M and 24 X5M. Free and takes 10 min or so. Keep in mind that they are then always open which I don’t mind.
