Faulty Display Key

Hi all

My G01 is going in to the dealer tomorrow for an investigation into faults with my display key. Came with the Technology pack and hasn’t been reliable since I picked the car up in September 18.
Won’t hold charge, randomly switches off in spite of a full battery symbol. Has died completely leaving me locked out of the car and so on. I carry both keys now as I’ve lost faith in the ‘trendy’ key 🙄
Also, the charging tray led flicks from blue (charging) to yellow all the time.
Anybody else having issues? BMW UK deny any known issues but you know what they’re like 😂
Thanks.

Also, my iPhone 8 charges perfectly 100% of the time so I suspect the wireless charging tray is faultless.

That’s two faulty display key threads at the top of the threads list! Quite glad I didn’t get the display key now!

Ha!

You’re lucky, I wish I’d never bothered. If it can’t be sorted I’m looking at £250 for a new spare key! 🙄

If the Display key is faulty surely they have to replace it or provide you a normal key, to be honest I would have preferred 2 normal keys, its just a gimmick really, it doesn't offer me anything over a key and my app on the phone. It's bulky and doesn't have anywhere to attach your house keys to either and if you did its likely you'd scratch the screen which of course you cannot get any reliable screen protectors for, and and and

P.S. I bought the car from Dealer Stock so didn't spec it

Agreed, it’s a nice talking point in the bar but that’s it really. I’ll try to push the dealer for an extra free spare or at least a massive discount whatever happens. Watch this space...

I think you probably have a faulty Display key.

One advantage of this key is that it's permanent(?) vs a subscription for the phone App? (We have 4 free years for the App, then we have to pay to continue)

Update

Ok, so car was at the dealers for 4 hours today. Initially got a call to say ‘nowt wrong with it mate!’. So I insisted there was and asked them to do a ‘hard reset’ on the display key that I was told (by them) could be done. ‘Never heard of that mate?’ they responded... so I tell them to try harder. 4 hours later they finally got the key to ‘fault’. I’m picking a new one up on Tuesday. Why is it always a battle?

Anyway, result.

LOL - nothing in life is easy, especially the people at the shop just want to take the easy way out, or purely incompetent, or both

In any event, hope the key replacement will solve all issues. Good luck.

Also if your Mobile data reception is flakey, like in your vacation house far away in the bush/mountains/outback/whatever ... you're display key actually got a quite good range to turn on the aux heater / vent hot air out.
