Scratch repair advice

WTH is wrong with people.. Got a scratch on my car now.

Wondering if you guys have any advice on repairing it? I imaging I need to use compound paste to remove it.. But have no experience doing it.

Note I do have a orbital polisher, and ceramic coating (CarPro Cquartz UK 3.0_50ml Kit) ready to put on afterwards.

Had a couple of tiny marks on my wing, kind of thing a bag on a shoulder might cause. So I used some Meguiars Ultimate Compound Colour & Clarity Restorer. Gentle circular motions, clockwise and anticlockwise on.a soft cloth, let it dry, polish off. Scratches gone.
If it's deep, seek advice from a specialist smart repair company. Orbital might be a bit too harsh?

Depends how deep it is, if your fingernail doesn’t feel it then you should be able to polish (compound) it out, if your fingernail feels it then it could be removed with wet & dry paper then polishing, but if your fingernail catches on it then it will likely need to be repainted.

My finger nail can feel it but doesn't feel deep.
I'm guessing it's a purse of a girl (or guy) trying to get in their car since it's next to my mirror of my car.

As another member mentioned, if you cannot catch your fingernail on it, then it should polish out. I have a lot of experience with chips and scratches, so I would start with a mild scratch remover. I like Meguiars (I’ll give you a link). If you need something more than the Meguiars scratch remover, and with no prior experience in detailing out scratches, I would find a reputable professional detailer, or visit the dealer. If your car is a darker color, it’s too easy to put in swirl marks with the incorrect product. Good luck, and here’s the link:

Can't tell how deep that is, and isn't a chip looks like.

But, FYI, i have following product on standby, though so far haven't need to use it,

https://www.drcolorchip.com/

Hopefully the paint film and coating will combat issue(s).

Thanks, but no chipping.. Doesn't look like keying since it doesn't look deep.

Was chatting with one of my friends and he says he sees that all the time. He was one one suggesting that might have been how it gotten scratched.

Found this video and it looked like his scratch was deeper than mine.. but he could polish out the scratch. Since I don't know how to embed video.. here's a link instead.

O-M-G. I mean, nice video and all that - but there is ZERO chance I would ever trust myself to do that :-)

Paint scratch removal video

I would not trust this guy. 1 or 2 millimeters is NOT 1 or 2 thousandths of an inch. A millimeter is 39.37 thousandths of an inch.

I don't have time to watch that video and I'm not going to vouch for his paintwork skills, but ChrisFix is legit for repairs and DIY tutorials.

My advice would be to take you DA polisher with a strong cutting compound and see if that does anything. Watch videos first and make sure you know what you're doing. If the cutting compound works, you can follow up with a finishing polish and call it a day. If the cutting compound doesn't fix it, I probably wouldn't attempt sanding it myself and would bring it to a pro instead.

I was watching a few other videos of his, and they seem to go to a similar concept. ChrisFix does look like he does a lot of videos fixing cars.

Looking more, I just saw this made by 3M for removing scratches. Power tool usage to make the job faster.. but sometimes that worries me..

Some tw@ has also hit the front of mine (2 weeks into owning it).

Ordered some Meguiar's G10307EU ScratchX so will take some before and after photos to see how well it comes out.

This might be a stupid question..
I know that I read that you need to apply wax after getting everything fixed.. Can I just jump to the Ceramic CarPro that I bought to do this?

Having tried the Meguiar's Ultimate Compound and the Meguiar's Xscratch there has been some improvement but unsure why it isnt removing some fine scratches that I cannot feel with my nail.

Many variables. It depends on the pad and the compound, your machine and its power, and how many passes you are doing.

Microfiber pads + an aggressive compound (meguiars m105) will take care of almost anything, but it will also take a bunch of clear of the vehicle. The goal is to fix the majority of the imperfections in the gentlest way possible. You can use foam pads with more aggressive compounds or vice versa with the microfiber pad. Blow out the pad after each panel so that it retains the cutting power and make no more than 4 passes over the same area. It is a bit of trial and error to find out the combo that works best for your specific paint.
