Hi guys.

I have a BM3 CustomROM set up in my 2021 X3M. However, I have some issues.

None of the following features work:

- Ethanol sensor (Flex Fuel kit is installed)
- Steering wheel map switching
- Steering wheel anti-lag


I've flashed various maps (OTS and Custom) and the Bootmod3 app says "CustomROM Detected" so I don't think that's the issue. No matter what map I use, however, none of these features work. Does anyone have any expxerience with this being an issue with their vehicles?

Work directly with BM3. There are weird edge cases between build dates that might cause it to not work right.

Yeah, this is possibly the situation I'm running into. The flashes work, but the flex fuel sensor does not, nor do any of the steering wheel controls. I thought It was just user error, but then I actually attempted to use -any- of these features and realized they do not work, and then my shop realized the same situation.

Ok so I figured out where I saw this issue before. Maybe see what they did for this guy(nav75). He was not able to see any of the BM3 CustomRom logging options in the app, even though it was the CustomRom map flash.

I got pro tuning freaks to remote in, and they say it seems that the CustomROM was not set up in the unlock. I was told CustomROM detected doesn’t necessarily mean it was set up that way. They informed me they’re reaching out to FEMTO to see what happened and what I need to do..

It’s looking like I’ll need to send the computer out again which would be a disaster!

I actually haven't been able to work with them yet. In the process of selling my house...

His symptoms are a bit different than mine but could be a similar problem. I am able to switch maps and the tach does read correct ethanol percentage. I've been living with a 1k off the shelf tune until I can figure out how to log the channels I need to tune...

I will update the other thread when I do resolve it.

Still waiting for this to be solved. Been doing a lot of back and forth with PTF on this as of now. It seems they don't know the cause as of yet.

Had them remote in again today. They're pretty baffled. They even tried to reset the account and delete all config settings and run fresh maps. Same problem. They've now escalated the issue and I will let everyone know what we discover.

Yep.. they’ve told me this:

In that case it seems that your DME either didn’t get the CustomROM type unlock, or, was overwritten by some other sort of unlock/flash software. Everything in your bootmod3 account is set up correctly to run on CustomROM.




I replied saying:

What could it be? When plugging in to OBD the bootmod3 program says customrom 1.1 detected, and the only flashing this car was ever exposed to was an XHP transmission tune that was done 6 months prior to FEMTO unlock. How could the car say it detects the software, but it not be there?


It seems like I’m screwed and will need another unlock..

Have you contacted FEMTO? Perhaps they can take care of it for you without having to pay for the unlock all over again -- especially if they did something wrong with the unlock (potentially).
