BAVSound vs Bimmertech alpha 1

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hey everyone.

Been reading for a couple of days on how HK sucks. Didnt test it on my test drive yesterday, but I am a bit of an audiophile so I am expecting to be thoroughly disappointed.

So started looking at threads but didnt see one comparing them. Also didnt see much info on the alpha 1 kit from bimmertech.

Does anyone have an experience with the bimmertech?

Also looking at some threads on adding a sub and amp. Lots of good info here.

Kinda wish the new rig didnt have HK sound, couldnt find an X3M that didnt have it.

Not on this platform, but on a f15 bimmertech is far better. I have a sense, regardless of your choice, the newer HK amps are the real limiting factor. If I were you, reach out to Kevin at Integral Audio and ask him how close he is to wrapping up his G01/F97 soundstage project. Tell him Dennis from the forums said hello :>).

HK is standard and unchangeable in the M platform. I cant wait to replace this POS low powered amp that BMW cucked us with. They skimped on a lot of things that other lower end cars have in spades. 100K and the damn hood latch breaks if you look at it.

I mean they had to cut costs somewhere, everyone does it. A blaring obvious example is the manually adjustable steering wheel/column.

A mid-level F150 has it, with comfort in/out. Here, on a 85K SUV, its manually operated...

What amp are you getting, and from where?

I am probably just going to do a custom setup because no one pays any love to the LCI/G80 yet, annoying. DME is locked and Bavauto hasnt made a sound system for it yet. I just want my things!

I guess I will have to hear a '22-'23 soon. Wondering if the amp was downgraded post covid. My 2020 sounds better than any other HK I have had, including the F30 and G07.

My M340I HK I thought was underwhelming. However the LCI 22 X3mc HK I thought was really good. However the BASS could use some more thump.

If you are an Audiophile, the closest plug n play system that I recommend is MATCH Audio system with Amp upgrade.
I've sold and installed a few sets on M8 and M5 with HK, and customers been super happy with it.

Thanks for chiming in. So I started looking at all of the Fischer offerings. Got to see and hear a Helix V (who would have thought I had a local dealer, in a college town?!) and was impressed.

However, it seems like its not quite plug and pray.

Mind sharing what are the main difference between the "entry level" UP and the mid-level Helix V, other than a light increase in power?

Unfortunately, I haven't got a chance to install and listen to Helix.
But, all I know, the Rep told me that MATCH is plug-n-play solution. Which most of my customers are after.
Custom audio is not something that many are after, one it is expensive in parts, second it is expensive in Labor.
Based on my experience in selling BavSound for many years, 99% prefer the plug-n-play solution.

In all my previous vehicles I've had "true" audiophile systems (Levinson, Lexicon, the real bang and olufsen) so the only thing I needed to upgrade in those vehicles were the speakers (normally JL C5 and C3).

My plan was to start with the Match 10DSP (and 1.9ram harness), add an (older) sub amp (RF 500D) and a JL 10TW3 and see where that gets me. I already had the JL and RF gear from an F150 I had:

https://www.f150forum.com/f118/sound...2/#post5005753

Anywho, I am picking up the truck in a couple of hours. I havent done enough research to see where I need to augment sound abatement, but I have a feeling from the test drive that I wont have to add a ton of CLD.

Your opinion is appreciated.

I should really get you and Kevin at Integral together. That's his jam. 100% PnP upgrades and on the high-end, crossovers, trunk sub, second amp and a pre-tuned ESP (vehicle specific) for around $4k retail. Which sounds pricey, but it's not vs. hours of research and piecing together the right components in hopes that they will pair up well together.

He's a master at car audio, but I think he could really benefit from a distributor/marketing partnership.

Unfortunately, I only do install.
My ear is not good to do audio tuning.
Too many loud exhaust and growing up building SPL audio system, not SQ.
120+ dB all day long, lol.

Yeah that would work. He pre tunes the dsp with 3 optimizations and remote to control bass and adjust the tune file 🤓
