Beyu wroteIf there is an ashtray, I put sticky felt in it, and use it for coins. If no ashtray, gets trickier. Isn't there a small pop open compartment to the left of the steering wheel on the dash (NA cars, right side for UK)?The ashtray lol, that's what I always use.

Well, I've always used ashtray to put coins. But the x3 does not come with an ashtray and I do want to save the small compartment next to the steering wheel for my sunglasses, wallet...etc.

I am with RMDoxie, there is just no good place to keep coins. I have looked at auto parts stores with no luck. What are others doing?

Ah ok, wasn't aware that there isn't an ashtray (car should be @ dealer by tomorrow), seems bit strange since most cars have them. You could always get a small coin purse and put it in your glove box.

We have a small leather zip pouch in the glove box. Works nice and doesn't make noise in there.

Do we get one if we ordered the storage compartment pack?

4sure wroteNot too sure about that - the package gets you rails/tie-downs in the back, netting behind the two front seats, netting in the front pass. side. Not sure about the "mini glove box". There is no mention of that in the Cdn BMW website/configurator. It's either standard in all or none, I suspect. But with the storage compartment package we get the extra little mini glove box on the drivers side beside the steering wheel right?

I hate change and pay with credit eveywhere I can to get miles and avoid dealing with change and cash. Not really a solution to storing change, I just avoid having any.

I'm with you, Nahoa, and try to avoid change at all costs. This thread is of interest to me though, because the only convenient parking I could find in downtown San Jose last weekend was metered parking. I didn't have coins so I couldn't park there...Had to use the $10 Minimum Garage in order to use a credit card. (I now have $2.00 in coins in the little storage box next to the drivers side door.)

That's a pain. When I've had to I've filled a cup holder with quarters, but it annoys the crap out of me. When there's a lot of the they stay pretty quiet. Cup holder is useless for the lady's latte, though. Wish that space just above the storage "tray" was a drawer with lined coin storage.

My wife and I were in Whitehorse, Yukon on our way back to Florida from a road trip to Alaska. We stopped to get gas and our card would not go through. We went inside and had the guy run it. It still wouldn't go through. Fortunately we had a stash of what we called in the Army "$hit happens money" in the car. The card worked the next day and the bank never did know why it wouldn't go through. They said they saw no indication of a "hit" on the card. The whole experience got me thinking.... what if we hadn't had any cash on hand and the credit card never did start working again. I am almost exclusively "cash only" now.

Yes, we do have the credit card meters at different locations and those were all taken from people in my situation, I'd bet. The only open meters were coin only.
