End of the day it really comes down to personal preference. The Carbon black is a M special color and it does look amazing under sunlight. I have a 2014 X3 with the M package on a Alpine White. I also had this same decision to make and just decided to go with the white. The white just shows more when it comes to the details since there is more contrast.

I had the same quandary when it ordered. ultimately decided on the white because I thought it showed off the lines and bumper design better.

Carbon Black is a gorgeous color, and a special black. Alpine White is just another white, but also a gorgeous color.
Over a few typical days, any black car, even Carbon Black, is going to start looking like crap. Any white car will also start looking like crap after a typical few days. In my experience, the white car will usually look better than the black car. I suffer through that on a regular basis with my Deep Sea Blue Metalic 35i, which falls into the black (dark colors) category. Last edited by 02420X3; 06-14-2014 at 03:37 AM.. |

Recently bought my first X3 and wanted Alpine White but secondhand market was full of Black/Grey/Silver, but if I had a choice it would be AW every time....it's smart, easy to maintain and timeless.

White every time!
I've got a black car at present (not BMW) and whilst it looks great when it's just been cleaned, it only takes a small amount of dust before it looks dirty again. In addition to that, a black car gets very hot when parked in the sun. I've got an X3 M Sport on order (not due until September!) and I've ordered white. Having had white cars before, none of the black car problems apply. They stay much cooler in the sun and don't need washing anything like as often. White for me! |

thank you it seems that the advantage of carbon black is the exclusivity of the color , but other than that the white is more easy to maintain

Not a fan of white cars in general, but the X3 m-sport looks great in white.
With that said, I have Carbon Black and it is, to my tastes, a perfect color. Interesting, shade-changing, striking in the sun, classic when dark. Hard to keep clean, but my car only sees a car wash (yes, I know, I used to Zaino too , but my job, three kids and my other hobbies mean this is now outsourced) once a month and it still gets tons of positive comments. Both colors are great - choose whichever one makes you smile! |

For myself in the UK I would chose AW. CB is great when clean in the sun. A little dirty in dull weather makes the car look flat dark blue. It's never quite black either. How would you keep the car clean in an Austrian winter? AW will be liitle easier to keep clean....just a little.

AW is my first white vehicle ever. My previous two colors were M-B's lunar blue (not as dark as CB but still fairly dark) and BMW's monaco blue (again, not quite as dark as CB). My "comfort zone" was to do CB with tan interior, again, but went for AW with saddle. I seriously couldn't be happier!

My 2011 X3 was DSB and a PITA to keep clean. I can only imagine the same issues in CB. IMO, not only is AW easier to maintain but contrasts its lines best.

Mocha will be great with AW, the best for AW IMO.

I think that the AW gives the car the feeling of a cube with the m sport. AW looks much better on x-line. I would go for Carbon Black together with 310 wheels every day, all year.

I bought an AW but CB is more masculine and aggressive looking.

Personally, I am done with dark / black colored paint...no matter how awesome the paint. By the 3rd day after a normal hand wash, my DSB X3 looked dirty. Spend the time detailing it and it looked awesome, only to see it look dirty in less then 3 days lol. Inside, outside, this product, that product...it didn't matter. It became too much of a hassle rather than a pleasure. A buddy had picked up a AW E90 M3 and I was instantly hooked. His car looked clean all the time and the contrast on the front and rear looked awesome. That's when I knew it was AW for me.

After seeing both IMO both are very good colors the best in all msports color as well, the carbon black is more masculine yet elegant specially at night and the white looks more sporty and for younger taste and easier to maintain. Carbon black is amazing color but very dull if theres is some dirt in it the glow or shine of the blue paint easily covered by dust and dirt. The white is easly maintain but looks a little bit a ricer than the black . So it gets more attention IMO.

I just picked up my first black car last week (14 X3 M 3.5 Carbon Black). Dealer had both Carbon black and AW at the time, but it didn't take me a second to choice CB. The reason is I had so many white cars at the past, and it is time for a black one. lol
White car is easy to maintain (no doubt) and looks sexy when adding the black M parts along with it. However, the black color is always the classic color and very aggressive. Both are awesome colors!

This is a Sapphire Black and a X4, but still very very nice! These pictures is one of the reasons why I chose SB instead of CB or AW.
