Our 2018 X3 M40i had a CEL (check engine light) recently so we took it into the dealer. Testing the code revealed an issue with the grille shutters so they are ordering new parts and keeping it in the shop until the parts arrive from Germany - estimated 3-4 weeks, due to concerns that the engine could overheat if the shutters are not working as designed.

Just a heads up for people who have this feature; I've not seen other posts indicating that this is a widespread problem.

We got a base X3 for a loaner, so at least we have something to drive for the next few weeks other than our M240i. Shopping runs to Costco with that car are pretty limited!

Its happening quite often...probably why parts are on back order. Seems like every problem on here with the X3 is a matter of when not if it will happen.

According to the body shop that just quoted us replacement from damage due to a logging truck, that's a 5 hour job. No point in doing it twice as the dealer would lose their ass in labor.
