New owner - what exhaust is on my car?
Hi all,
I've had several BMWs before and after a long break I'm back with a 2016 X3 28i xdrive. Is there a way to tell what kind of exhaust system is on this car? Seems to be modified, at least with the Remus tips. It's pretty loud and aggressive at startup, then settles into a low growl after a minute or so at idle. It drones a bit on the highway at lower RPMs and doesn't sound like something BMW would put onto their base X3. I checked to see if a "golf tee" mod was done by unplugging the vacuum line from the valve on the exhaust... but I don't see the valve or the line anywhere on the muffler. The car did come with 19" M wheels if that's relevant in any way. I was hoping it was this mod since I could try to reverse it and see if I can get a quiter stock sounding exhaust note for this family car. I also wanted to put a hitch on it so hopefully this is a stock muffler that won't interfere with the hitch. Bonus question - is there a way to tell how old the battery is from this picture? |

Would adding the tips change the sound of the stock muffler? We test drove a couple of other 28i's before and they definitely had a quieter exhaust note.
I was also wondering if the 19" M wheels that are on the car was an option back when the car was first purchased or if one of the previous 2 owners added the wheels, the tips and the M front grill inserts. The sales guy was telling me it has the M sport package which I higly doubt, but I don't know much about X3s coming from e46's. Last edited by Vert2021; 08-05-2024 at 06:58 AM.. |
