Increased top speed limiter option (840) retrofit
I am wondering if it is possible to have a top speed limit increased from 130 to 150 mph on US-spec 35i (given I upgrade my tires and bring them up to BMW spec necessary for factory option 840)? I am just toying with the idea... (I have SAP, no M-Sport, no DHP), 18s for now, 19s or 20s next season.

Your comment is just showing how immature you are being. You already judged me just by looking at my profile... how childish.
In fact, I might be moving to Germany next year and I would be taking my X3 with me, and there are definitely some roads to touch 150mph, contrary to MD, right? Know you know, geez... Anyway, getting back on topic here: is it possible? |

Since Option 840 "Increased speed limiter" is simply a bit of code in the engine processor, it should be a trivial change, if you can show a dealer that the car has the appropriate tires. It probably means reloading the full engine software. A full reload of all the vehicle's code can take a few hours, so expect to pay accordingly.
If you do take your NA spec X3 to Germany, it's probably something that's best attempted there. If you can't find a dealer to do it, you might want to speak with someone from Dinan (in the US) or one of the German BMW tuners like AC Schnitzer, Koenig or Alpina who undoubtedly know how to remove or modify the speed limiter. |

Whilst you can do 150 in non-urban areas on some German freeways - did you check the gas price in DE compared to US? - it might mean more eyes on the fuel gauge than speedo. You may be aware EU spec. cars are factory limiited to 250km/h on a voluntary basis by all German car producers.

relax, just some humor from someone who lived in Massachusetts for 12 years - the roads suck there, not much better in Maryland. If you really are going to ship the car to Germany than I can see your point. I have been on the Autobahn in a Mercedes on European delivery - driving in Germany is a very different experience.
increasing the speed limiter to 150mph on my X3 or any other ride I ever own would either land me in jail or 6' underground. Quote:
