Help me choose please

Hi! I'm pulling the trigger tomorrow on a m40i two options here.
2018 with 46,000, miles with 9 month of transferrable warranty. It's was previously CPO
White with black interior. Brand new tires and brand new brakes all the service done by BMW dealer. $34900
And ...
2018 with 36,000 mi black with an oyster interior. No warranty, no service done and it's at Toyota dealer. $ 37850
Both are in pretty similar conditions. And both has the same trim equipment etc
I wish I can afford a newer and lower millage but this is just what I can afford right now.
Just sold my 2013 X5 M package and need something quick.
Thanks for all the opinions!!

Just some thoughts -

Service history, especially BMW main dealer, and warranty are crucial for me and would outweigh the 10k mile difference.

New tyres and brakes would cost a chunk of cash, so that's another plus.

Oyster interior can be difficult to keep looking good especially if you wear denim or similar dyed fabrics that transfer.

All things being equal, and if there is no other issue/advantage on either car, I would go with option 1, due to lower cost, service history, warranty, and new tyres/brakes.

I believe the Toyota dealer has little knowledge of the worth of the car he is trying to sell. Just because it’s a low mileage BMW doesn’t mean it should cost that much. Dealer service history and warranty are very important. It’s not a Toyota. It could have been abused all it’s life by the previous owner and now Toyota doesn’t want to be liable for warranties.

If you can’t decide then neither car is for you, hire a car and keep looking

I like both cars. Just trying to make the best decision. I'm leaning towards the white one

On paper I would choose option #1 assuming their warranty claim is trustworthy. I’d also be pushing hard for $30K. It’s 5 years old and only has about 50K of reliable miles left in her. New it was $64K and with it being a former CPO you need to assume it was thrashed pretty hard. I would not pay what they’re asking but that’s me.

I’d also go find the roughest road I could and be in the careful look out for the pano roof rattle, front suspension creek/clank, driver side wind noise, front seat squeak, rear seat rattle or your X3 will quickly become your worst nightmare.

I’d also make sure you can live with the firm ride and the noisy exhaust. The 2018 is very mediocre in these two areas.

The 2018 exhaust is something most owners seem to enjoy, and owners of newer models wish they had. The new ones being too quiet in stock form is a common complaint of reviewers. Just an opposing viewpoint.

My old X5 was bad in that to. But all good points. I couldn't find a decent price on any of their vehicles there is not many out there. We barely drive 5 , 6 k a year. So maybe I can swap it for a lower millage in a couple of years

I used Autotrader and ended up buying my fully optioned late 2018 from Dallas TX and had it shipped to me in WI for $750 but that was in early 2020. Had only 10K miles and was not CPO. I made calls, taked to sales, got pics and had it fully checked out. Paid $45K but it was perfect. Now it has only 18.5K but I have a daily driver that does winters. Check around. Mine is Phytonic Blue with congac leather interior. Shipping will be more but you will have many more options.

I live close by. I bought my X3 last month for 3% off MSRP at BMW of Arlington. Can you wait and order something? Or, would you prefer now? If now, I'd buy the white one at the dealer. Before any negotiation, I'd want to see every scrap of paper on the services performed. What dealer are you shopping? Recommend the Join YAA site bone up on negotiation tactics. If you want a VSC, talk to Christine Newman to get the numbers on a contract. Attaching her info below.

BMW will cover a vehicle for a total of 7 years. All time and miles begin from the vehicle's original in-service date. This is the Platinum with no deductible. The options below will add an additional 1, 2 or 3 years of warranty. This warranty is good at any BMW dealership across the US.

60 months/75k miles $2750
60 months/100k miles $3050

72 months/75k miles $3300
72 months/100k miles $3750

84 months/75k miles $3850
84 months/100k miles $4400

If you wish to proceed with the quotes above, I will get payment over the phone and then DocuSign the contract to you. Then you are all set.

Kindest regards,

Christine Newman

Thanks all for the responses I did bought the white one. Ended having all 4 brand new tires , brake flush, spark plugs, Al the air filters. And Alignment. So next will be upgrades... I always have to modify something. I wasn't happy with the media sound ....but that's a minor detail.OTD ended at 36800.

That flash voids the warranty right? Can be reversed before if I have to do some repair?. How to do that coding for the IDrive?

Congrats. I specially purchased a used 2019 instead of getting a new car because it’s louder and can be tuned. Enjoy the new car. I highly recommend the MHD tune.

Interesting. Wonder if it throws a code like VW does that can't be removed. I like the DINAN system as it is easy on, easy off
