Why de-badge?
Just curious--seems lots of people do and I just wonderd why.

Some people prefer the clean look. I find no need to debadged the x3. Doesn't really improve the looks. When I had my E90, I did debadged the 328i from the trunk.

De-badging is a personal taste issue. Some like it, some don't. In parts (all?) of Europe, it's an option that you can order.
I didn't understand it previously. I'm starting to come around. The more that I see it, the more that I like the look. |

I think its a cheap way to personalize a car, not that I have ever debadge any of my cars. Some people like to debadge and some like to add badges, not sure which one is worst. I guess sometimes a tasteful badge can add to the overall appearance of the car and in my opinion, debadging a car makes it look cheaper.

Some people like to hide the lack of power or not advertise how much power you have under the bonnet.
My 30d doesn't have badges but I think BMW should have given me the non applied badges in the hand over just in case the next owner would like them. I presuming buying all the badges from the dealer is going to cost £££ or $$$ or €€€. Any ideas how much they cost? |

Shows up differently on different color cars presumably. Personalizing makes sense--like turning Toyota into "Toy" or putting a badge from one car onto another.

I debadged my 911. I traded it in for a 981, which I'll likely debadge. What I hope to do is take a one of the pictures I have of the cars, blow it up and mount it with the badging with the lettering shadow-boxed. I don't think I'll debadge the X3 though. Porsche lettering is often difficult to clean around and I think they go a little overboard in their badging. BMW, not so much -- they seem to prefer having 30+ models, with each model having an M, an i, an x, a hatch, sans hatch, 2 door, 4 door, 5 door, etc...

When debadging started started in the UK many years ago it was for:
1) pretending your smaller engined car might have a big engine 2) having a big engine but hiding the fact to make it less of a theft target I think now it's more a cosmetic thing.

I love removing the plastic emblems, keeps it looking clean and modern. Nobody needs to know what model you're in or what engine you have, who cares! It's a BMW

I had mine delivered debadged. I think the "xDrive20d" looks about as bad as adding "turbo GTI" anyway. I didn't mind that much the "X3" itself, but well, it looks cleaner without too.
Mind you, I also removed the garage advert on the back window, and anything even remotely looking like a label :=)

I debadge my cars almost for 30 years. It is much easier to clean the car.

I think it is very common in Germany - hence on BMW as an option - no something that bothers me much but I only have a 2.0l so maybe I should as X Man suggest (LOL!)...
but I do agree who cares its a BMW (good one..osxcode).

Once you get the 2.0D up to speed, it drives the same as the bigger engine.

On a similar note, I don't understand why people don't remove the dealership branding/license plate frames. Now THAT makes a car look cheap! |
