10" or 12" display upgrade
OK, so I've seen the android upgrade systems which include either a 10" or 12" screen upgrade.... plug and play for the most part it seems...
I'm not really interested in the android auto part of it... I'd just use the larger screen with my existing NBT ID4 system that's in the car now. (unless there's an affordable way to upgrade to ID5?) So my question - - Is there anybody out there just selling a larger screen upgrade, without the Android computer stuff that goes along with it? Obviously looking for something that installs seamlessly with the dash like the Android systems offer. |

not a fan of android?
no prob hold down "MENU" on your idrive knob, and it takes you back into bmw menu's. simple. DEAL ALERT - nbt owners only: https://avinusa.com/8-8-multimedia-n...nbt-sale1.html (its not 10 inch, but its still super cool) |

I'm still old school and use my phone mainly for a phone...
(and camera)... I don't use it in the car for anything other than hands free calling, etc. I have no need for the android alternate carplay yada yada... BUT - I would really enjoy the larger screen, as long as it looked like it was supposed to belong there and not just cobbed into place. It seems to be a waste to purchase a whole system and only use the screen part of things... Was hoping I was just missing a link somewhere to somebody that offers a display screen upgrade. Perhaps there's not really a great need for it out there in the market. |

on the plus side, if you do get one of these screens, they're typically touch screen (which is pretty cool) and means you can avoid using the idrive knob
this feature is only useful to those who find the knob annoying, someone like myself SIDE NOTE: like you, i never cared for android auto / apple car play ..... UNTIL I EXPERIENCED IT. now I wonder why I waited to long to give it a chance. my recommend = TRY IT! you might be surprised. |

in the case of this avin unit, it includes a dock , so it installs rather clean and oem looking |

i was checking the new android stuff in aliexpress. I found this new screen 12.3 with the left edge cutted to fit the dashboard. Also i am not interested in android (i have oem carplay as i did nbt evo retrofit). I asked the seller and he told me it can be set to always start up in OEM Menu instead of android.

OK - so after a couple of different members here pointed to AVIN for a good source for the aftermarket upgrade screen....... I did some shopping and reviewing (and a LOT of over-thinking).
Bought the 10.25 screen from AVINUSA.com I just like the look of the 10" screen over that of the 12" screen that (to me) looks a little oversized for the dash design. Since I wasn't interested in the multimedia, navigation, or android components of their system, and only was interested in utilizing the display screen / I opted to take advantage of their "sale".......... outdated Android 9 hardware version.... for $199. Customer service was EXCELLENT answering my questions and offering self-guided installation detail, as well as trouble shooting steps. I didn't connect any antenna, microphones, aux cables, or anything else not related to my purpose.... Didn't need the best software or processor, etc. Just took out the OEM 8.8" screen, and wired in the new 10.25" screen - changed a couple of avin system settings - and DONE! I went slow, took my time, and double and triple checked everything along the way. Start to Finish / including troubleshooting the system settings that needed changed for my setup - - all in about 2-hrs. VERY Pleased....... the larger screen - especially with the 360 degree cameras, and reversing - a total blessing for my aging eyes! Here's the system I bought and installed: https://avinusa.com/10-25-multimedia...6-cic-nbt.html I can't speak to the electronics, android system, or gps, etc... only the display screen functionality with my stock OEM usage. A++ for my needs. |

There is a plug-n-play harness that comes with the monitor that plugs into the factory harness and OEM head unit, providing a pigtail cable of wires to route up to the monitor. You do have to remove one pair of wires from the factory harness plug, and insert in the into the same exact spot on the plug-n-play harness going back into the head unit, but it's all of about a 5 second process. The most challenge I had was routing the pigtail up to the monitor, and fitting the new bulk of wires and harness plugs back into the dash. I fitted them just underneath the head unit in the back, and it was tight, but I didn't have to force anything into place. It really wasn't much of a challenge, but it was the most challenging of everything in the process. That's all I used, and EVERYTHING works exactly like OEM Stereo control knob, iDrive knob, and steering wheel controls = 100% the same functionality. It literally is just swapping out the 8" monitor screen with a 10" version the way I did it. In the box also was a microphone, gps speaker and antennae, pigtail harness for connection to 3rd party cameras, audio inputs, etc... and an aux cable. I did not use ANY of these in my install. I can still use the AVIN Android 9 part of everything if I want to / just without sound or gps signal........ but that wasn't my purpose for the purchase, so I'll never even click over to those parts of the system. |

There are options to get that - yes...
I chose the stripped down version / bare bones - so only the android auto is included in my package, but I could have added the carplay option during my checkout for more $ if I wanted it. |

I personally went with a local reseller here in Australia for the peace of mind that, although slightly more expensive than ordering directly overseas, if something was to go wrong I’m able to easily get a replacement/refund. Most of these units aren’t cheap, you just have to cross your fingers you have no issues when ordering on Aliexpress

the pricing for the local sellers do not seem too bad. I'd probably just go that route too. |
