2024 X3MC - Lightly Used - Help!

Hello, X3/4M forum! I’m new to this forum, but I’ve played in a few others.

I’m here looking for some guidance and maybe encouragement.

This might be one of those, “I know what my parents are gonna say, but I’m gonna ask anyways” moments.

I recently sold my Marina Bay Blue 2024 X5 M60i. It was very tough to part with but we upgraded my wife and our family vehicle to a 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander so the need for 2 large SUVs wasn’t necessary. I also have a 2022 Toyota Tacoma that I kick around in and will keep forever.

My X5 M60i was The perfect combination of comfortable and sporty. But it was just a bit overkill with how large it was. I’m a real estate agent and rarely do people ride in my car anymore. Often it was just me driving by myself, which is just fine of course.

I’ve also had 2009 3 series coup xdrive, 2016 340i, 2021 M340 xdrive, and 2022 X5 M50i in the BMW world, along with Audi SQ8 and RS3.

I’ve never owned a full M car. And my driveway will not support a sedan.

All that to say, I have found within a few few hours of me, a very recently traded in 2024 X3MC with 1600 miles on it. The guy bought it for his wife and she quickly realized it was too much for her, so she traded it in for a Tesla. Shockingly, it is the perfect build for me. If I were to custom build one today, it would be exactly how I would have ordered it. See attached. The color combination is my all-time favorite. And again that’s just me personally.

They are offering to sell it to me for $85,500. I think I could probably negotiate a little bit more.

Knowing what I’ve shared above and that this car will be mostly for my own personal driving pleasure around town as a daily driver… Thoughts?? I have taken some really big hits on buying new cars and selling them in a short period of time. With this being the last year that they are making this specific X3M and its color combination and anything else you can think of, Would you say it’s a safe bet that this might hold value a little bit longer and a little bit better than some of my past choices?

Have at it! Appreciate any and all comments… even humorous ones

Looks like a great Spec, I can see why you like it

If you can get them to go lower on the price, sure, do it... of course.
If not, I'd say it's up to your budget if you can make it work, but this would be a fun performance upgrade in the kick-in-the-pants/butt dyno area for sure.

Have you driven an X3MC??
They are very much of a sports car in "SUV clothing", with a performance suspension and tons of getty-up and go...
It's not the high torque V8 or the more refined ride personality you are coming from with the X5, but it is smaller as you say with a very eager I6 and is more fun to throw around corners, if you are after performance and handling.
It will be kinda like an SUV version of your RS3... kinda.

I'd say drive it, then make your decision, but as you point out the window for buying these wonderful beasts is closing quickly, and this one is just "broken in" mileage (1200 miles) wise, so it's ready for full-on fun!!
Beware, once you drive it, you will be hooked...

Post some pics and and let us know what you decide.

Price is very full IMO, based on my own recent experience (bought new). ~$70-75k is probably a closer bogey. Yes it's the last year, but it's still a car and will depreciate...

I'd prob also try to change cars less frequently, but that's just me

Test drive it first. I had a 22 M3 and now have a 24 X5M and 23 X3M. The X3M rides the harshest out of any car I’ve ever owened. I don’t mind and the wife loves it so it’s not an issue for us but trust me when I say it’s not subtle. Slight imperfections in the road will have you bouncing out of the seat. Again, this is her second X3M so we are a fan but the comments on the ride quality are not exaggerated. Personally I would never use it for clients.

I would agree with others that the price seems high for used. A loaded used ultra low-mileage 2024 should probably be mid to upper $70s or very low $80s . You can probably find a new one with a 5-6% discount (plus incentives) if you aren’t too picky on the color/options. That gets you into the ballpark of the used quote. I would search new inventory near you, sort by oldest, and see if any dealers are willing to discount even deeper on old stock. Otherwise, definitely try to get them down further on the used one.

For perspective, I bought my 2024 new last month. Mine is a bit of an outlier due to the color, but it was in their showroom for 6 months and they were eager to get it sold. They discounted it 12.5% from $95k to $83k before incentives.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’m not sure where you live, but these cars are near extinct within 500 miles of me. There is one new one arriving in a few weeks within 200 miles and the dealer rep I talked to yesterday thinks it will sell quickly as it’s the second one they have had all year.
And this one that I found lightly used is just under 300 miles away.

I’m pretty sure you can’t even order them anymore from dealerships for 2024 and 2025 hasn’t been announced for the X3M, unless I’m mistaken.

Congrats on your find and incredible discount! Home run!

Enjoy!

I'm ~3 hours north in PA. I do see 20ish new X3Ms within 250 miles of the DC area (not sure where in VA you are), but certain options are pretty slim now vs. this time last month. The 892M wheels in particular have gotten way harder to find, most remaining inventory in the NE is equipped with the 765Ms. You are correct on orders, BMW closed 2024 ordering in late June. I missed submitting a custom build by ~4 hours.

Is the one you mentioned at Hendrick Mazda in NC? If so, they've had it listed for 2 months per cars.com, so you should have some room to negotiate. If it were me, I'd tell them I got a quote for a new one in the $85k range and toss out something in the mid to upper $70s and see what they come back with. I would think White over Sakhir w/ 892Ms should be one of the more common combos to find on the used market for a lower price, even with production rumored to have ended permanently. Obviously if you need something now, it changes things, and you'll have to compromise either on price or options.

And thank you! Hopefully you'll be able to get yours squared away, it really is a beast of a vehicle.

Considering its a new car, the discount is not bad. If its being sold by bmw dealer, have them cpo it no extra charge and jump on it. You'll be getting almost the full 5 years of warranty unlimited miles and all the maintenance transfers over.

These cars depreciate bad, so just be prepared for that if you end up selling it.

If you don't have to have it right now, I'd wait about a year to start shopping. As mentioned above, they depreciate very bad. We picked up my wife's '22 X3MC in 2023, 1 yr old with 15k miles for about $20k off original sticker. It's got nearly every option & was originally delivered by the dealership from whom we purchased. At $85k, you're going to take a huge hit in depreciation over the next year or so.

Make absolutely sure that the 1200 mile service was done (rear diff and oil change). Without that, you will not have valid warranty on the diff. Take key to BMW dealer and have him print out what service the car has had.

The X3MC ended up selling… they didn’t budge on the price and after doing even more digging I can’t see myself paying over $80k for any 23 or 24 model. I’ll be patient and keep searching… I think the end of this year will be a great time to buy a car!

Thanks again for the great insight!

May be tough since they are discontinued.

There should be a decent number coming off lease or traded in for something else. It's the cellphone generation, many can't keep anything longer than 1-2 years.

Lease penetration is relatively low wince the LCI was released (bad rates), so I doubt you will see a ton of lease returns. Also being a relatively low production vehicle I suspect we will see less available given that most owners likely financed and are underwater.

OP, our dealership has a new one in stock, though not to your ideal specs at all. Consider a non-Comp X3M, with light options, to stay on the right side of $80,000 MSRP new. G01/F97 production has now ended, and there's no G45-based X3M coming, so either grab one already on a dealer lot, find one pre-owned, or set your sights on a X3 M50.

There are cars out there available at invoice. They don't sell quickly, that was not a good deal on a used x3M. If you want one you can find it.
Can't answer the "should I" question only you can.
It's a rare bird if you like the unique package of small lighter and fun to use daily. My '24 rides Ok on 21s IMO not an issue if you like M cars. I sold an x5M recently as it was too insulated and silly to try and push on the road. X3M feels fun at any speed.
