All my posts got deleted... AGAIN

Haha what the heck is going on? All of my posts and threads got completely wiped again. Last time it sounded like it was from the DB issue. Again?

I saw you posted on the Alibaba exhaust thread and it showed a box asking if we thought you were spam or not . I didn't click either but maybe someone else did and that's why you got deleted .

Thank you for letting me know man. First time this happened, I saw that spam box too. I am now 100% convinced someone is flagging my posts as spam on purpose now. Weird that the system would just wipe everything without admin approval. And giving the benefit of the doubt, I am assuming an admin isn't actually involved here. I am pretty sure I am not breaking any rules.

This happened to you too? I have the BB code of my threads saved in a doc. It will take me seconds to get any number of my deleted threads back up. But if this keeps happening, I can see a future, where all my threads take over the entire first page b/c I have to keep re-posting them haha.

I have been on BMW forums for 24 years now. Ive been here through the rise and fall of forums. I am still here. An example of a truly free forum is r3vlimited. It is currently the only e30 forum left. Non sponsors could post about their products and prices, and people could post just about whatever as long as it was in the right subforum. Hahah so much so that a general "NSFW" picture thread in the off topic section straight up turned into the nudes picture thread. It had so many views, millions, that google dropped all of the google ads b/c it re-classified the site as a porn site haha. After that, you couldn't post EVERYTHING you wanted... but still haha.

Obviously I am not certain what is going on here. I am assuming, that someone or multiple people take it upon themselves to abuse the "report spam" feature, and its getting past the mods (or they are part of it), when someone says something they don't like. Never thought the day will come when there are actual Karen's on car forums. In that respect, I really don't think this forum is that free.

And if this has happened to me a few times already, who knows how many times it has happened to other people. And those people just never came back. It's a bold move allowing it to happen, when a lot of people these days aren't coming to forums at all to begin with. In all of the forums I have been a part of over the years, this is the very first one that has behaved like this.

Anyway, let’s run an experiment.

Both times this has happened to me, I had made a post basically criticizing knock off products from Ali. It’s funny, I didn’t even know Alibaba was a source for car parts until I got on this forum. Imagine buying a $100K car and putting knockoff parts on it directly from China, and then doing all sorts of mental gymnastics to justify it haha. I’ll be fair, not everything on there can possibly be subpar. But 95% of the time, you really do get what you pay for.

I am going to re-post the comment in the valvtronics thread. Lets see what happens.

I'll admit the first time, I thought it was because of the issues the forum was having, I figured it was DB issues. But no way it happens twice. Sucks :-/

Could be. But my post criticizes buying from Ali directly, and doesn’t specify a vendor nor is it posted in a vendor thread. I’m not dismissing that possibility though hahah.

I mean honestly if it is a vendor issue let’s say, would be nice if a Mod just told me what I was doing wrong so that we can move on.

If the reason really is me criticizing people that buy knock offs products. So what. People can do whatever they want to their cars. It’s just an opinion.

To be honest there’s a difference between knock offs and original that’s my opinion. Times are changing. People just want cheaper metal tubes.

If I am not misunderstanding you, we can agree there. Usually there is a difference between knock offs and originals. If you are saying original, as in designed and manufactured in China and then purchased from Ali, that’s not really my gripe either.

I will say though, I don’t think times are changing all that much. You’ve been able to get knock off exhausts on eBay for almost the last 20 years. Supersprint, racing dynamics, and AA are just some of the brands I can recall. Now you can just get them from China direct. People want to spend less, I get that.

I honestly did not want to bump this thread back up. But since I am, here is the update.

I heard from an admin last month that my posts were being flagged by users as spam. So there we go, confirmed, people were abusing the report spam feature.

All my posts got restored, but it looks like I still can't DM anyone. So unfortunately this is the only way I can think of to reach out to an admin. Sorry Jason can you help me out? Thanks!

Where are Moderators in this? Maybe they can answer? Also, asking for an annual $10-$20 "donation" could help with the site....

We've tried for years, they are free, funded, and basic AF, there's other forums out there too, but this is the easiest.

Honestly, I think the way the forum is now in theory should be fine. It's pretty obvious what forum spam looks like, so giving the users the ability to moderate that independently is a good idea. But you have to be some special little girl to abuse it when you have your panties in a bunch.

Unless I missed it, I think there should be a stickied moderator thread for people to post things that need attention. My biggest hurdle in all of this was to reach out to an admin/mod when I couldn't DM. What a perfect recipe to let the Karens of the community thrive.

The reciprocal being there's a lot of "bro's" on here with ego's, they tended to just get banned outright.

I think we all have egos to some extent though, let's be honest. Especially our resident Karens. You gotta have some ego on ya to take it upon yourself to pseudo ban someone from a public forum haha.
