Apologies for not sharing a better virtual view of the differences, Midwest, which I should have provided. Here is a final image trying to provide spatial reference between the two. Had I known these samples would have been available when I dropped by I could have had ruler in hand.
The embossed 'grain' is clearly finer, but as has been pointed out, whether that translates to pliability and ease of conditioning and overall leather quality will have to be determined. As we have not been provided with specs by BMW, I am still going on the assumption that this is an attempt to make the interior higher quality to match the top-end competition.
