The original design from E39 has more lip and the spokes are flatter, whereas starting with E60 there’s no lip and the spokes are very concave (i.e. sunken in). If you run the E39 version you’ll need hubcentric rings from 74.1 to 72.6. If you run the E60 version, those will bolt up as fine as they’re also 72.6.
