I have the X5 45e here in Germany. Driving in electric mode with 75mph does not make sense at all. The electric mode is meant for city driving, generally below 35mph. I actually get a range of ~45km/28miles out of my X5 on the drive to work (most of the time <60km/h) and since I can charge for free at work I now spend almost nothing on fuel anymore. Of course distances here in Europe are a lot smaller than in the US, but still, electric mode on the highway isn't really efficient and I'm not surprised you only get 17 miles of range with that driving profile.
