I don't want to plug it into any of the visible sockets though as it looks a mess, especially that one in the rear cig socket, that is just ridiculous!

I've got one of these wire tap 12v sockets, just need somewhere convenient around the dash to connect it to, suppose I'm going to end up connecting it to the cables that go into the back of the head unit!

If the overhead wiring doesn't work, dig up our thread from a year ago that outlines the front fuse panels and the various people's threads who wired to that. No need to dig under the dash for head unit wires.
