some are assuming that bmw have known about this for some time I.e. more than a month or two. How do we know they won't solve it in a matter of weeks?

I'm reasonably optimistic they'll solve and dealers will be advised of the fix as a service bulletin so when you go in for maintenance, they fix the vehicle. Doubt this will amount to a recall, but suppose it's possible.

in the meantime, I understand the frustration (I would be as well), but we have to let this run its course to some degree.

Bad things happen to all car brands...there are hundreds of thousands of parts on our cars...they're bound to get something wrong at some point. Murphy's Law
