If each of these models required its own development effort I might agree. BMW's development approach leverages existing platforms for niche models, and all the vehicles you listed have platform "parents" that sell lots of units and therefore amortize the development costs. Comparatively speaking, bringing these models to market is a very inexpensive way for BMW to capture additional market share by targeting narrower customer segments with niche vehicles.

In other words, these may seem useless or redundant to you, but BMW doesn't care as long as enough people buy them to make their incremental investment worthwhile. We don't know about the X4 or 3GT yet, but the X6 and 5GT have met their sales targets.
