Our X3 (2013 F25 w/ N20 engine) has a big problem, the timing chain guides broke. It is a common problem with these N20 engines and BMW extended the warranty to 70K but ours went 118K before the failure. It's a $5000 repair at the dealer so I'd rather go the DIY route. Got the skills but need the special tools. I'm also planning to replace the oil pump chain and oil filter housing gaskets while I've got it apart.

What I want to know is if anyone has the special tools required to hold the cams, and lock the trans in place to perform the repair? I'm looking for 3 things:
1) Balance Shaft Lock Kit for the oil pump chain replacement job- BMW p/n:83 302 318 117 or equivalent
2) N20/N26 Timing tool Kit used for locking the cams at TDC- BMW p/n 83 302 212 831 or equivalent
3) Flex Plate Lock locks the trans in place - BMW p/n 83 302 222 742 or equivalent

I can buy them from FCP Euro but I hate to spend so much on what would essentially be one-time use tools for me. If you've gone the DIY route and have these tools hanging would you be willing to rent/sell them to me?

Any advice from someone who's done this job would be welcome too.
