With the sightings of the future
X3 M (F97), it was a foregone conclusion that there would be an X4 M in the works (confirmed by
an appearance in the BMW system and our
future models thread), but we now give you the first visual proof of the X4 M!
Based on the upcoming
all-new G02 X4, the X4 M (like the X3 M)
will debut an all-new S58 engine, which will also power the next generation M3 and M4. The new S58 engine will make 450-460 HP.
This F98 prototype features the typical M traits -- more aggressive bumpers side skirts, trunk spoiler, M brakes and quad exhaust.
As for timing, although the standard G02 X4 will debut later than the recently revealed new G01 X3 (the G02 X4 will start production in first half 2018), the X4 M will likely be introduced together with the X3 M (just as the X5 M and X6 M were launched together). This means an early 2019 introduction, with production starting later in 2019 as a 2020 model year for the U.S.
