Wow, thanks for that. It appears to be a tarball of tarballs containing encrypted RPMs. The "password" is stored in the car, and iDrive 6 appears to be implemented using arm linux/qnx.
Anyway, the internal dates for my downloaded UPD09032.bin update are
Jan 29, 2018 and older (around 10AM Germany time).
Bleh.
