There is a brake monitoring system on the car that can give you some indication of brake life. There are pad sensors that will indicate that replacement should be done.
Still it’s possible that they somewhat worn, maybe a pulsing pedal or the pads are glazed. The X3 tend to wear the rear pads first. So the assertion that all 4 wheels require immediate replacement is suspect.
