I think the unfortunate part is that it fails too early to be a preventative measure. I wouldn't advise anyone to do this service EVERY 50k miles. That would be too much I think. Plus, some people go much further on the pump.
As a side note, the n54 and n55 have the same water pump. I have an N54 car that has 81k on it. Hope it lasts.
