I'm living in Quebec, so we got -30 Celsius temps also for the last two weeks.
I had the same exact problem with my 2011 X3 35i... same warning, same weather, same car symptoms...
The dealer told me they changed the "main relay" (is this the PDM ?) and the car came back to life after an hour or so. They also told me the problem was caused by the car warming up in cold temps, and then freezing when the engine is stopped.
There's a fix coming ? They didn't tell me. At first, they thought the battery was dead and tried to charge it for an hour (it didn't work, the battery was fine). Anyway, not the first time the local stealership doesn't get it right on the first time with my car...
