Personally I do collect watches and have a good number of them. I would not buy a watch over the other things you listed though. However I have an account set up for watch purchases. Would I spend $20k+ on a watch? Yes and I have done it a few times. As for making a profit on watches generally that doesn't happen but depending on which one you buy it will hold value much better than others. If you buy watches just to make a profit then you would need to get limited edition watches from truly high end brands.
