Old guy says, "Be careful blaming your wife. She represents 1/2 of your net worth". It looks like you have the BMW OEM mudflaps. That's how they fit on the M Sport body. They are designed for the standard trim levels (black plastic lower and fender edge trim). Without lots of care and trimming what your pictures show is how they are going to fit. A couple of people here (see Automobilia's postings in this thread) have sourced some aftermarket (eBay) mudflaps that appear to fit somewhat better. His photos look pretty similar to yours.
