Now that depends on what type of dash cam you are using. Do you want it to record when you are parked up?
In my situation, I wish my dash cam to record when my car is sitting in a car park, or on the street as well as in normal driving. I use the QVIA AR970 front and back cameras that can be configured to run for various hours when the ignition is OFF. To be able to achieve this the Dash Cam needs to be connected up to a permanent live feed. Fuse 58 is one such feed.
I am never away from the vehicle for more than 6 hours, so in the software the cameras are configured to switch OFF after 6 hours. Also to prevent the dreaded BMW low battery warning I have configured it to switch OFF when the car voltage drops below a predetermined level. This facility works well, and after carrying out much testing, I never receive any warnings.
