The original article in the post listed a few flyover states that were considering raising the speed limit to 80 mph... not "Autobahn type highways with no speed limits for at least portions of the highway."
The article about SB319 was added about two weeks after my remarks. I am an officer of an organization that sponsors and endorses legislation related to California criminal law issues, and personally wrote laws that were recently enacted. I don't know whether our committee will vote to endorse or "no dog (in this fight -- refrain from endorsing or opposing)" SB319, but I personally don't believe it will make it out of the Senate public safety committee, much less to a floor vote in the State Senate.
