I test drove on Saturday mtown and Concur on the initial acceleration. I found the ride a bit stiff for my taste and. IMO I can't justify the extra 20k to 25k over an m40i.
Afterwards I drove a 2017 F85 and really enjoyed that beast. I am strongly considering going that option.

a nicely loaded X3 M40i runs about $66k, a bone stock X3M runs about 70k ... I'll gladly spend 4K for the ///M

I've priced up the X3M40 and there is no way anyone gets a stripper X3M40. You certainly won't find one on a lot , and even if you ordered one there is no way you are checking a few boxes. My cheapo build was 58k and every time I roll up and see one at a DFW area dealer it's damn near maxed out at 66k.
At which point.. X3M begins just 5k over a loaded M40...
In my opinion ... X3MC is totally worth the 7k premium for the damn alcantara/beige seat combo alone
