The harness will NOT keep the hatch from opening. I am in and out of my hatch a lot with the boat hooked up for various things... I see no advantage to the wiring harness, except maybe resale (a buyer will expect wiring with a hitch install...)
You will probably just want to code the "trailer mode" into idrive. That will let you disable PDC when you have your bike rack hooked up.
