I've been advised by a local BMW specialty shop to change it ever 6K miles. I'm going with that. Pricing wise I'm not certain as I haven't used the dealer yet. I know that BMW CCA members get a 20% discount on parts from BMW; not certain if that applies to oil and filter however.
